THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN PAGE 4 OUR HOLIDAYS’ PROGRAM LOCAL Mrs. Hauser is taking charge of the students’ kitch en, as Mrs. Vesper recently vacated the position. James Medicine Tail, member of the senior class and band, has gone home on account of his health. Mr. Gibson and his detail are paying special atten tion to twelve head of choice porkers that will be dressed for the Christmas dinner. The second band had their first rehearsal on Tues day evening, under Mr. Bewley. By Commencement time some of these boys will be holding places in the first band. Mrs. Ranzell, our efficient nurse, has been kept busy with several cases of pneumonia, but through her careful attention and the aid of her nurse girls, all are on the road to recovery. Arthur W. Johnson, better known among his school mates at Chemawa as “Jack” Johnson, is finishingjup his senior year at the Teachers’ College at Chico, Calif. He is also playing on a championship football team in the conference his college belongs to. Three long rahs for “Jack” on account of his “ability to stick.” George Berry, one of our graduates who comes to see us occasionally, merits comment on his “ability to stick,” as Supt. Hall often tells our pupils. George did not stop at working in the woods, but continued in the trade that he got at Chemawa. Went to night school to better himself in his line, and today he is still in a good job. INDUSTRIAL ITEMS The plumbers are busy with frozen pipes since the cold snap. Christmas trees are growing in the rear of the car penter shop. The masons are helping to get in the Christmas trees needed for the several buildings. The wrought-iron brackets made by John Kawasuk for the senior domestic science department show good workmanship. Some very good work by the machinists has come to our notice recently. The tools made are all of prac tical value and will be used in the department. The butcher, the baker, the cooks and the waiters, are preparing for Christmas Day. Most of us are sufficiently recovered from Thanksgiving festivities to welcome the Christmas feast. The harness that was made in our harness depart ment has all been sent out. This department is to be congratulated on its prompt and efficient work in mak ing the harness ordered for the Indian Service this year. Subscribe for The American—50c a year. SUNDAY.
