The boys of the masonry department have some nice work also and our flowers for decoration were mostly furnished by Mr. Carrow. We wish to extend our thanks for them, as they have added greatly to the display. The tailors have placed on exhibit some of the suits for the boys who graduate. The details of the shoe and harness department were without an instructor, but have shown that they were awake and on the job. The shoes they showed were substantially repaired and the harness work was deserving of credit also. The farm and garden showed a nice line of grains and field crops, samples of which are a credit to any farm. We are expecting unusually fine products from this department when the season is finished. Owing to a lack of room the dairy department could not show a demonstration of milking, but if any one wants to see the job done right all he needs to do is to report to the dairy at 4 p. m. any day and “ get an eye full” —of milk—if the cow kicks. SENIOR NOTES . 10:00 A. M. 7:30 P. M. ITEMS FROM THE TRADES It is said the gardners are well pleased with the pros pect of good weather for setting tomato plants since the rain. The industrial demonstration has received many compliments, for which all departments are feeling repaid in their efforts. The articles on display from the various departments showed a considerable im provement in design and workmanship over that shown last year. We have one department that had its first exhibit this year an^ it was very creditable both in workmanship and design. The furniture by the boys of the carpentry department is substantial in design and well executed in workmanship. The ma chine shop produced some very fiue tools, which are better than before shown in that they are of practical value and can be used. The useful articles turned out by the forging shop were a great attraction, and the boys who made them can be justly proud of them. The painters have shown that they know how to finish the various articles turned over to them. Their work was exceptionally good this year, both on wood and iron. The bakers made us hungry every time we looked at the fine collection of cakes, gingerbread, pies, rolls and cookies that were to be seen in the case set aside for this use. The operetta practice still goes on; we are improv ing every time. East week we took our final examinations in reading and penmanship. This Friday will be our last letter writing day for this year. We regret that it is the last. Herbariums are our main thoughts most of the time. No herbariums, no diplomas. So there you are. We’re trying to figure out what on earth made it rain? W e’ve behaved the best we could. Still it rains. Isn’t it queer that now we’re having our final ex aminations we seem to forget everything we’ve ever learned? We just dread to see our geometry examination come along. With all those lines, curves, circles, polygons, triangles, parallelograms and such in our heads it’s no wonder we get a little mixed once in a while. Miss McDowell planted some beans quite a while ago and put up two slender poles for them to climb up. The beans were killed by plant lice and to the astonishment of all one of the poles sent out a num ber of leaves. Just take a look next time when pass ing the laboratory. The seniors all had a chance last week to see the work being done in the various departments. All went well and every-one was happy till we hit the domestic science. Then we weakened. But no wonder, for there were cakes, pies and pastry fit for a king. All we did was give one long look and passed out to look over the hospital.
