CHEM AW A BOY SCOUTS OF AM ERICA It m ay be of in te re st to form er pupils and p a te n ts of boys a tten d in g o u r school to know th a t we have a real live organization of the Boy Scouts of A m erica. W e are registered at th e N atio n al H ead q u arters 125 stro n g and are affiliated w ith th e Salem Council. M eetings are held weekly and the four tro o p s th a t m eet can tell you th a t th e re is n o th in g slow about it. W e have a period d u rin g th e m eeting for S cout gam es. R em em bering th a t old sa v in g , “ All w ork an d no play makes Jack a dull b o y ,” not only do we play, b u t we have tests to pass before we can be a real T en d erfo o t, Second Class, and F irst C lass S couts. W e study n atu re , sig n alin g , “ F irst A id ” for the i n ju red , m aking fires, fire p revention, anim als and th eir hab its, life saving. All these th in g s th at the Scout has to stu d y gives him som eth in g to do. T h is is th e second year for th is organization at Chem aw a. T h e aim of th e Boy Scout M ovem ent is to m ake better boys and b etter men for the fu tu re . It has proven itself a help to our boys here. W e took in th irty boys at th e last m eeting. Boys betw een th e ages of 12 and 18 years old are invited to jo in . It will be th e m aking of you. M r. H ALLO W E’E N P A R T Y T h e first em ployees’ p a rty of th e season was given on F rid ay evening last in the D om estic Science parlors. T he hostesses w ere M rs. S h erm an , Mrs. Canfield, M rs. E ato n , Miss E arlo u g h er and Miss G u n n . T h e H allow een m otif was cleverly carried out in decorations and refreshm ents. N early fifty guests were present. Mrs. Dow nie and M r. M ason received th e high point prizes for the evening, w hile M rs. G okey and M iss Stanley secured the consolation g ifts. T he hostesses had planned such an u n u su a lly pleasant evening for th eir g uests th at all w ere u n anim ous in th eir desire th at it were possible for H allo w e’en to come several tim es a year. DOMESTIC SCIENCE NOTES O u r oil stove was repaired last week and is now in a good operating condition. T h e Dom estic Science g irls are very p io u d of th e ir new refrig erato r w hich th e y received last week. V ery appetizing m eals are being prepared th is week by our new cooks, C arrie A nderson and M innie P ataw a. New tables, w hich are about com pleted, will be re ceived by the D om estic Science som etim es n ext w e e k . W hy are the Senior g irls so quiet and sad? Because they have only two m ore w eeks left of th eir ten week period in the Dom estic Science. T h e Senior girls gave a d em onstration dinner last T h u rsd ay evening in honor of S upervisor Coon. Covers were laid for eight guests. T h e Sigm a Phi D eltas have organized for work th e com ing year and have elected as th eir p resident, O ka P au lin a; vice-president, M adeline W ilder; secretary , A ddie M erril; treasu rer, T heresa E sholt; chaplain, M aude P otts; co rresponding secretary, C atherine M adson. A num ber of new pledges will be initiated very soon. T h e society will have a larger m em bership this year than ever before and a profitable year s w ork has been planned.
