All Chem aw a, and especially th e Sigm as, welcome
Josephine C orbett back after several m o n th ’s absence.
S u p erin ten d en t H all was called to P o rtlan d on busi­
ness one day last w eek. As usual he m ade a hurried
trip.
T h e fu rn itu re th at was on ex h ib it at the F air is
being distrib u ted in the different living-room s in the
stu d e n ts' q u arters.
Several Chem aw a people attended the concert given
by the W h itn ey Boy’s C horus, at th e F air G ro u n d s
S u n d ay afternoon.
T he L iterary Societies m et and organized last F riday
evening. T w o ju n io r societies have been organized
th is year, m aking six in all.
T h e cem ent porch w hich has been u n d er con­
stru ctio n at th e Gym is now com pleted and is certainly
a great addition to th a t building.

New additions to C hcm aw a’s faculty th is year are
Miss Bagby of W ash in g to n , D .C ., Miss G u n n of W in d ­
sor, M o., and Miss H an k , who are in the academ ic
d ep artm en t.
Dewey Sam pson has joined th e o rchestra in the c a ­
pacity of trom bonist. W e predict th a t he will make
good on th e slide as “ m aking g o o d ” has become a habit
w ith Dewey.
M r. and M rs. E dw ard Ja q u in s have returned from
W ash in g to n , D. C ., w here they have been for several
m o n th s. T hey have retu rn ed m ore in love w ith the
G olden W est th an ever.
M r. L aw she, the S u p erin ten d an t of the Cotter d ’Alene
R eservation in Idaho, accom panied a p arty oi children
to C hem aw a last week. H e rem ained for a few d a y s’
visit and m ade many friends w hile here.
A n im p o rtan t in d u stry th at has been added at C he­
m aw a is the p oultry dep artm en t. It would be well
w orth your w hile to visit the poultry y ard and see the
five h undred fine w hite leghorns. M r. H en ry T u rn e r,
who has ch arg e of th is w ork, is ju stly proud of his
chickens.

H e and his fam ily are now residing in C hicago.
T h e b o y s’ exhibit at the S tate F air, w ere m ore exten"
sive this year than ever before, and m uch favorable
com m ent was heard on all sides. P lans are already b e ­
ing form ulated to have a bigger aud b etter d isp lay n e x t
year.
Mail is arriv in g for Supervisor Coon and we are e x ­
pecting him to arrive at any tim e. W e are so rry th a t
he was not able to be here in tim e to see our e x h ib it, as
we feel th a t we have every cause to be very proud of
th e show ing.
For th e past five years Chem aw a has had a m ost
creditable ex h ib it at th e S tate F a ir. T h is year we
p u t forth g reater efforts and filled the en tire w est end
of the m ain b uilding, eclipsing by far any ex h ib it at
the F air. All d ep artm en ts were represented.
Miss R u th B rew er, th e y o u n g est d au g h ter of M rs.
K atie B rew er, is to be m arried to M r. Jack D enny of
U n ity , O regon, O ctober 5th at the hom e of her m other.
Miss R uth met her fiance w hile a tte n d in g the O regon
A g ricu ltu ral College, of which she is a g rad u ate.
T h e m o n th of Septem ber is one of th e busiest m onths
of the en tire year. E very effort was p u t fo rth to get
th e plow ing well started and th e p ru n es d ried, th e silo
filled w ith ensilage, the S tate F air ex h ib it in readiness,
hop p ick in g , ca n n in g of later fru its and vegetables,
to g eth er w ith the b eg in n in g of school, gave everybody
th eir h an d s full.
Chem aw a started up w ith every d ep a rtm en t well
organized and effective w ork began on Septem ber
tw elfth. E ach year our stu d e n ts are a rriv in g more
prom ptly. At present we have betw een 600 and 700
fine y o u n g men and women on th e g ro u n d s. T he
enrollm ent lim it has been reached.
C hem aw a Day at the S tate F a ir w as a trem endous
success from sta rt to finish. E ven th e w eather
conspired to m ake the occasion a happy one. O ur six
h u n d red boys and girls were to our m inds— and the
sam e was voiced by m any at the F air— th e nicest look­
ing, most well behaved young people in th e en tire
ag g reg atio n .
C om m issioner of E d u catio n , Mr. T ig a rt, of W a sh ­
in g to n , D. C ., and his private secretary , tog eth er
w ith S tate S u p erin ten d e n t of P ublic In stru c tio n , Mr.
C h u rch ill,
were guests of S u p t. and M rs. H all
at the Chem aw a booths at the S tate F a ir last M onday
a week. T hey all expressed the g reatest su rp rise at
the show ing m ade. E d n a N apoleon did the honors
in serving p u nch at th e D om estic Science d e p a rtm e n t.
D uring chapel exercises last S u n d ay evening in
addition to the sin g in g of th e congregation the orches­
tra played ’’M om ent M usical” by S chubert, a q u in te t
of g irls san g ’’T ru s tin g F o re v er” by W ilson, the
choir san g ’’Jesus, R edeem er” by H all, and S u p t.
H all gave an unu su ally fine and able talk. T hese talks
by o u r S u p erin ten d en t are alw ays on lines of p ractic­
ability, hence are of the g reatest value to all, stu d e n ts
and em ployes.
