P relim in ary to the playlet given the boys pulled off a n um ber of stu n ts w hich were both am u sin g and clever. T h e decoration of the so ciety ’s heroes w as a scream , especially w here Mr. B e n t,h o n o rary m em ber, was declared a K n ig h t of the O rder of O nion and rap tu ro u sly kissed on both cheeks by G eorge B arrett, him self a k n ig h t of royal blood. “ T h e M ascot” was th e title of th e play given and those who assum ed the role of th e v ario u s ch aracters called for in th e cast acq u itted them selves m ost c re d itably. All th ro u g h th e evening th ere was m usic by the E x celsior band u n d er th e d n ec tio n of Cruz M cD aniels, w ho proved him self a conductor deserving recognition. T h e band was good and the m usic w as m ost pleasing, as it was capably ren d ered . All in all, it was an evening to be rem em bered for some tim e an d cred it is due to both th e E xcelsior Society and advisor, Miss H e n d rix . Such e n te rta in m ents m ean a lot of w ork. V. H a ll gave a stro n g talk in w hich he appealed to the s tu d e n ts to obey th e ir best in stin cts in all th in g s. H e Irv in g S hepard com pleted his required senior credits in th e Salem H ig h School last w eek. It is rep o rted th a t th e h igh school stu d e n ts al received good grades in th e ir sem ester exam s. Irv in g S h ep ard , C larence A dam s, G eorge Lekanoff, L ogan F an n and C harles E d er took p art in th e E x celsior play last w eek. T h e u n iv ersity , business college and high school stu d e n ts are glad to see the ju n io r g irls back in th e dom estic science, for tliey certain ly p u t up app etizin g lunches. T h e hig h school stu d e n ts enjoyed a few d a y s’ vaca tion last w eek. T h u rsd a y and F rid a y w ere given them in w hich to reg ister for th e new sem ester. T h e u n iv ersity and business college stu d en ts w ere not so fo rtu n ate and had to w ork as usual. W e are pleased again to hear th e rep o rts of F ra n k P eratro v ich and C larence A dam s in th e ir recent com m ercial law te st at th e C apital B usiness College. F ra n k received 9 9 percen t and C larence 9 0 . T h is goes to show th a t o u r stu d e n ts are stu d y in g hard. S E N IO R N O TES W ith the aid of the m icroscope the seniors are find ing botany an in te re stin g subject. T h e m ain topic in algebra is G eographical R e p re sen tation. T h e seniors are finding it q u ite in te re stin g . T h e Senior Jazz O rchestra has been d o in g some stiff p racticin g of late. T h ey will m ake th e ir deb u t in th e near fu tu re . Busy tim es are ahead for the seniors, p rep arin g the declam ation contest. S ix co n testan ts are now th e field and all are try in g to be one of th e fo u r to present the class. W e have several com petitors form er contests. for in re of A t a m eeting recently held by th e seniors th e fol low ing officers w ere elected to fill offices for th e balance of the year: E dw in L iljegren, president; L ouis Colby, vice-president; C lara M orais, secretary; C larence E d w ard s, treasu rer; Mabel B lodgett, sergeant- at-arm s; W illiam F ra zie r, reporter; Roy N uckolls, yell leader.
