W inona L ast F riday evening the W inona L iterary Society held th e ir first election of officers in th e usual W inona m eetin g room . School songs and cheers were given to get in practice for the rooting the g irls expected to do on th e ball field the n ex t day. T h e program for th e evening had been om itted to give place to the election of officers w hich took place w ith the follow ing results: P resident, Julia Gromoff; vice p resid en t, B eulah W h ite; secretary an d treasu rer, Mabel Blod g e tt; rep o rter, H attie M artin; cheer leader, Jo se ph in e C orbett; serg ean t-at-arm s, E d n a W illette and Jessie Cleveland. T h e en te rta in m e n t was in th e n a tu re of a “ k id ” p arty and many clever and am u sin g costum es were seen . A delig h tfu l evening was spent playing such old-fashioned gam es as 'L o n d o n B rid g e ,” “ T h ree D ee p ,” “ Ruth, and Ja co b ” and the like, after w hich dainty lunches, packed in bags, w ere served to all present. T he Chem aw a Y .M .C .A . called a m eeting on O ctober 17th for the purpose of electing cabinet officers for the follow ing year. Miss E leanor H olgate of Seattle, Y. W . C. A. s tu d en t secretary for the n o rth w estern states, w as a v is itor at C hem aw a on S unday. Miss H olgate addressed a jo in t m eeting of th e S enior Y . W . C. A. and the L. L. L. ch ap ter, Sunday afternoon in M cBride H all, at w hich tim e she spoke of the w ork of the g irls ’ clubs in A m erica and in foreign countries, and also outlined some of th e plans for the sum m er conference for n ex t year. Siltcoos L ake, dow n on th e O regon coast near Florence, has been chosen as the place for the confer ence this year, and the C hem aw a association is already an ticip atin g a good delegation at this conference. Miss H o lg a te ’s visit was m uch appreciated by the girls and we hope she will come to Chem aw a again d u rin g th is school year. S E N IO R N O T E S T he dom estic science g irls are all busy canning th is week. Beulah W hite has been prom oted and is w ith her reg u lar class again. T heresa G ua, E dw in L illjg ren , W’illiam F razier, form er stu d en ts, have retu rn ed as seniors. Seventeen lunches are prepared every m orning at th e dom estic science dep artm en t for the high school and college stu d en ts. T h ere being tw elve senior girls in th e dom estic sci ence d ep artm en t th e class is divided into tw o divisions. T he cook prepares for seven. E llen an d E lizabeth Belle, H arriet Cain and Opal Pearson w ere transferred on W ednesday to th e kitchen to prepare apples for can n in g . T h e seniors have been striving hard for th e past m onth an d have been w aiting for the arrival of m ore stu d e n ts before th eir election day, w hich was O ctober 15th.
