T h e object being to m ake every stu d e n t a m em ber. A fund for such purpose was sta rted by th e E xcelsiors who donated $5 to m ake tw enty of the y o u n g er s tu den ts m em bers. T h is was followed by th e W inonas in g iv in g a ba zaar from w hich $30 was placed in th e fund for th e p u r pose of m aking 120 stu d e n ts m em bers, w ith th e offer also to give $30 additional if necessary. T h e N o n pareils instead of th eir annual social, are p lan n in g for a Ju n io r Red Cross d rive w ith the ex p ectatio n of practically all of th e balance of stu d e n ts securing a m em bership. T h is drive will consist of selling tick ets for an evening of pleasure on S atu rd ay n ig h t next, to be held in th e gym . All m oney sp en t will eith er m ake the individual a m em ber or assist in g iv in g meml>er- ship to others. MADE GOOD SHOWING E lw ood T o w n er and Irv in g S hepard crow ned th em selves w ith all kinds of glory w hen th ey walked off w ith th e honors as h igh point w in n ers at th e Salem H ig h School inter-class field m eet on th e W illam ette track last F riday afternoon. E lw ood m ade first place w ith 17 points, while Irv in g reg istered as his n e a r est com petitor w ith 12 p o in ts. T hese two young fellows need to be com m ended on the good show ing they are m aking in Salem . L ike th e rest of our young people atten d in g th e h igh school, they are leading in m any of th eir classes, b u t the track is a new feature w ith them , and they need to be com plim ented on such an excellent show ing. Elwood came first in th e 100-yard d ash, first in th e 220-yard dash, second in th e q u arter-m ile ru n , th ird in the pole vault and second in th e 120-yard h u rd les. Irv in g cam e first in th e 120-yard h u rd les, second in th e 100-yard dash, second in th e broad ju m p , and th ird in th e high ju m p . Elwood is a senior and will finish in F eb ru ary , w hile Irv in g is a m em ber of th e class of 1920. CHEMAWA VS. STATE PRISON Last S atu rd ay our baseball team w ent to Salem ar.d played an 0 to 0 gam e w ith th e sta te prison team . T h e prison team played a ir-tig h t ball and clouted th e th e ball reg u la rly , but it was alw ays in tercep ted by C hem aw a’s defense w hen a ru n n e r was about to cross th e plate and score. I t was a fast and in te re stin g gam e th ro u g h o u t. O nly one error w as m ade d u rin g the en tiie gam e. N ex t S a tu rd a y ou r team w ill play the W illam ette U niversity team here.
