T h e older and more resp o n sible pupils shared th is stra in . All C hem aw a seem ed keyed up to the b reak in g point. O ccasionally ta u t nerves would yield a bit and some one w ould say, “ I t ’s Im p o ssib le.” But occasionally, and m ore and m ore often, a face w ould b rig ten , a set jaw w ould relax and a w inner would say, “ T h e course of stu d y is all r ig h t.” Because success is far more infectious then failure, today we hear no one d o u b tin g the possibility of our course of stu d y . A lready th e g reater throes of the pains of ad ju stm en t are th in g s of th e past and we w onder why we m ade such hard w ork of it. Does th is m ean we do less work? N o. W e do far m ore. But th ere is th is difference: In th e b eg in n in g we w orked blindly, not to say hopelessly, b u t now we begin to see results, excellent results. T h ere are yet m any k n o ts to be untangled in o u r academ ic w ork, m any difficulties to be su rm o u n ted in our in d u strial w ork, an d grave trials of stren g th and patience to be m et before we shall have reached p er fection in o u r adm inistration of this plan of education. But we now attack all these problem s w ith confi dence in th e plan and confidence in ourselves. W e have joy in our work for we have “ glim psed th e v is io n .” E X C E L S IO R R E L IA N C E S P E L L IN G M ATCH On F rid ay n ig h t the stalw art E xcelsior team m et defeat at the hands of th e R eliance spellers.
