WHAT IS SCHOOL WORTH TO YOU
As our students near the completion of their course at
Chemawa they naturally ask themselves the question,
“ Has my desire for an education been successful?”
To this question there are many answers, which vary
as much as the individuals do; but it is safe to say
that most of the thinking boys and girls will realize
that their education was not secured from books and
industrial work alone. It is the all-round young men
and young women who should feel most satisfied with
their course. Now what do we mean by an all-round
man? Here is the definition: If you have broadened
morally, socially and physically, as well as intel­
lectually, you have approached the all-round man or
woman and have secured all that the world will ask of
you. Success in the world depends entirely upon the
course you take during these years. If you build a
foundation that * makes you an all-round man or
woman success will be yours.
Those who have observed the pupils who have gone
out from this school have noticed that the successful
ones—and there are many of this kind—are they who
took part in all school activities. It is true that not
every student is fitted to take an active interest, and by
that means help to achieve success. Those who have
only a short time to remain in school will know wheth­
er they have gotten all from their course that was
possible to secure. The new students may not feel
the importance of this policy of being an all-around
man; but all of the students after finishing their course
in school will succeed or fail to meet the strenuous
walks of life just as they have been active or inactive
here.
Make it your aim, therefore, to fit yourselves in
every wav for life’s battles, and to do this enter into
every school activity with zest and vigor.

BRAVE BOYS OF CHEMAWA
Winona (Society) War Whoop
News from the front gathered by our own war cor­
respondent, Veltha Frazier, and sent over specially
leased wire to the Winona War Whoop:
Robert Alpheus lately sailed for Japan.
Martin Colby of the Marine Corps is in France.
Fred Charlie is in London serving under the
British flag.
John Pablo sailed with Company K, 162d Infantry,
for France.
Archie Lane is with the 175th Aero Squadron,
Houston, Texas.
David Forsman, with Troop C, 7th Cavalry, is at
Fort Bliss, Texas.
Allison Stone has been sent with his company to
guard the Mexican border.
Sergeant Joseph Gale who is in the aviation depart­
ment is somewhere in France.
Lawrence Frazier is stationed at Leon Springs,
Texas, in the 20th Field Artillery.
John Victor Adams, Company K, 162 Infantry, is
in the British Base Hospital in France.
Henry Burd, who was a star basketball player when
in school, is serving his country in France.
Charles Eder, one of Chemawa’s famous football
players, is stationed at San Pedro, California.
Louis Tellier who joined the army last spring was
one of the first Chemawa boys to go to France.
Nick Orloff, George Jackson and Clarence Adams
are all on board the Marblehead somewhere out at
sea.
Dan Johnson, on board the U. S. S. Cleveland,
writes that he has been over to France and back three
times.
John W. Beyers who was delayed last month on
account of quarentine of his battalion has now sailed
for France.
Earl Nuckolls, who was in training at Mare Island,
California, has moved since last heard from. No one
knows just where he is at present.
