CLOSING WEEK AT CHEMAWA
LOCALS

The tennis court is being used almost constantly
these days.
Supt. Hall made a short business trip to Portland
on Saturday.
Mr. Gillett, former teacher of agriculture, made a
short visit at Chemawa last week.
An additional twenty White Leghorn hens have
been added to the domestic science hennery.
The mother of Mr. Everett, our engineer, arrived
on Saturday to make her son a visit and possibly to
remain with him.
Mr. O. H. Lipps, General Supervisor, and Mr.
Burtt, Supervisor, are expected at Chemawa very
soon. At present they are at Klamath Agency.
Mrs. Rosenberger, teacher, has received notice of a
transfer to Tongue River, Mont. This was done in
order that Mr. and Mr. Rosenberger might be em­
ployed at the same school. Chemawa feels indebted
to Mrs. Rosenberger for her willingness to assist in
all musical affairs. The best wishes of all go with
her.
The Choral Club and their friends enjoyed a de­
lightful outing on Friday evening, June 15. Two
trucks carried the young people to Salem, where they
attended the Oregon Theatre and enjoyed watching
the ever popular Douglas Fairbanks. After the pic­
ture show all visited either the Spa or the Gray-Belle,
where refreshments were obtained. The ladies who
so kindly chaperoned the party were Mrs. McCrosson,
leader of the Choral Club, Miss White and Mrs. Pen­
dergrass.
Mrs. Hall entertained the Sigma Phi Delta girls at
her home on Saturday evening, June 16. The little
affair was in the nature of a farewell party as well as
complimentary to Mrs. Jaquins. A very jolly and in­
formal evening was spent, singing, telling stories and
having a happy time generally. Toward the close of
the evening dainty cold refreshments were served.
The guests outside of the society members were Miss
Scholder and Miss Ruth Liphart. Miss Liphart was
the guest of Anna Loftus during the closing week.
Mr. and Mrs. Loos are spending their vacation in
Portland at present and later will sojourn in San Fran­
cisco. Miss Flint is in Portland; Miss Mitchell at
Nez Perce, Idaho; Miss Taylor visiting her parents at
Altoona, Kansas; Mr. Swoboda with his daughter in
San Francisco, Miss Hodgson at Seaside, Oregon;
Mrs. Estabrook and Mrs. Rosenberger are in Salem;
Miss Skipton is visiting friends in Portland; Mr. and
Mrs. Woods are at Chemawa at present but will go to
Tillamook later; Mrs. Brewer and Mr. Hobucket are
at Chemawa at present.
tered into by every-one present and instilled all with
renewed loyalty to Chentawa. The school song, Red
and White, was sung as a closing number with much
feeling and emphasis.
ALUMNI MEETING
The alumni and ex-students held a business meet­
ing at one o’clock on Thursday and elected Reginald
Downie president and Sarah Brewer sec’y-treasurer.
Considerable business was transacted and a get-
together spirit prevailed.
At the close of the meeting a program was rendered
in the auditorium to a large crowd, with Mr. Gordon
Hobucket as chairman. Alumni songs were sung
with much spirit and good speeches made by Frank
Johnson, Loulin Brewer and Jerry Meeker.
RECEPTION AND BANQUET TO ALUMNI
A reception was given to the visiting students and
alumnae in the gymnasium on Thursday evening,
which was attended by all the older students. Splen­
did music was furnished by Mr. Turney’s trio. In­
vitations had been extended for the banquet which
followed immediately at the close of the reception, be­
ing held in the students’ dining hall, there being about
70 guests. The tables were set in the form of a cross
in the center of the dining hall, and were decorated
with large baskets of gorgeous white roses with bows
of red tulle, and red roses with bows of white tulle.
Cut glass bowls filled with cut roses also added to the
lustre. These exquisite roses were from Chemawa’s
own campus. The menu consisted of the following
four-course dinner:

Saratoga Flakes
Roast Chicken
Dressing
Cream Gravy
Mashed Potatoes
Fscal loped Corn
Pickles
Olives
Tomato Salad
Cheese Wafers
Strawberry Ice Cream
Cakes
Coffee
Mrs. Brewer and her girls did the cooking and Miss
Skipton and the Sigma Phi Delta girls did the serv­
ing. The banquet was delicious and was daintily
served. Much credit is due the ladies in charge.
After dinner speeches were made by Mr. Hobucket,
who acted as toastmaster, Reginald Downie, Mr.
Meeker, Mr. Smith and Supt. Hall. This banquet
closed the activities of the week.
An enjoyable and profitable time was had by all
participants and the visitors were loud in their
praise of Chemawa and their entertainment.
