M rs. Storm , who has been ill for some days, is about her d u ties again. T h e y o u n g m en of M itchell H all, and you n g ladies of M cBride H all, deserve credit for the tid y ap p ear ance of th eir room s. T h e dom estic science classes are very proud of the ch a rts show ing th e different cuts of m eats, w hich w ere so excellently d raw n by M amie F risk . A visitor to the m any in d u strial d ep a rtm en ts from 7:30 to 8 each m orning will find an interested lot of pupils ta k in g p art in the in d u strial lectures. T h e com bination exercises at the weekly m eeting of th e stu d e n t body and em ployees was om itted on S u n d ay evening. D r. W edge gave an illu strated lec tu r e on th e life of Jesu s C h rist. R oller sk a tin g on th e p art of the p u p ils over the cem ent w alks has not been practiced since th e cold w eather has set in. Indeed, th e bovs skated on the ice w hile th e lake w as frozen over. A lex M elovidov exhibited som e good sk atin g . Miss Jessam ine H odgson arrived last week from F o rt B erthold, N o rth D akota, to fill the place of te ach e r recen tly left vacant by the resignation of Mrs. R isser. M iss H odgson finds our w inter d elightful after leaving th e severe cold of N orth D akota and was g reatly su rp rised to see our cam pus so green . We w elcome Miss H odgson and hope she will find C he m aw a, as well as h er w ork, pleasant. Miss E sth e r T ay lo r, d au g h ter of W . E . Miss W edge and Mrs. Jaq u in s are S orority sisters, Miss W edge of T u fts College, Boston, and later g rad u atin g from V assar, and M rs. Jaq u in s of S tan fo rd U niversitv. T h e Y. M. C. A. had a fine m eeting on Sunday evening. T he topic was “ T he R ew ards of R e lig o n .” It was a topic th a t was quite in terestin g to all presen’ . T he program was as follows: L ead er’s T alk , Nick H atch; T he R ew ards of a H appy H eart, F ran k Jo h n son; T h e R ew ard of a Useful Life, H enry Davis; T h e R ew ard of a Good R eputation, Fred K arluk; T he R ew ard of a S tro n g C haracter, Robert Service; Rec ognition of G oodness, Joe G ale. Q uotations and Bible verses. T h e assem bly exercises at th e opening of school on M onday m orning and afternoon, were rendered by the Reliance Society. T h e program consisting of, G etty sb u rg A ddress, W ade Min th o rn ; Solo, Clyde Fields; R ecitation, Irv in g G ray; E u phonium Solo, W illiam W alters; R ecitation, Janies Crane; R ecitation, R aym ond G rey, was given in th e m orning, and the follow ing program given in th e afternoon: R ecita tion, A lbert G ray; Vocal Solo, Clyde Fields; Piano Solo, Law rence T aylor; R ecitation, Janies C rane. Both program s w ere well rendered. Joseph G ale acted as chairm an. P U P I L S ’ N E W S IT E M S T h e Seventh grade class had a debate on th e q u es tion, “ W hich is m ore beneficial to m ankind, In d u strial train in g or A cadem ic train in g ?” A ffirm ative, Louis Van Pelt, Louis T illier; N egative, T helm a O rson, P eter H atch . T h e affirm ative side won. M arguerite C ham berlin and H attie Cleveland gave a b irth d ay party M onday evening. T hey served delic ious refreshm ents, played gam es, told stories, and had a jolly good tim e. T h e guests who attended were, Jessie and Lena Cleveland, A gnes S tew art, Julia Mills, and A lm ira H am m ond. T he vocational first year dom estic science class served a five-course meal F riday m orning, A nna S ex ton actin g as hostess and L ottie W ilson as host. Effie Davis assisted w ith the cooking, w hile Ruby W hite acted as w aitress. E ach girl did her part exceedingly well. T h e m enu was as follows: V egetable soup, beef steak, brow n gravy, m ashed potatoes, banana salad, lemon pie, b u tte r, coffee and cream . Mr. Blessing recently gave a surprise p arty to all his vocational boys. T h e boys th o u g h t th a t he had su m moned them to give them a lecture. T hey found, how ever, the office all fixed up with good eats for them . T h e party enjoyed several speeches. T h e engineering boys are am bitious to com plete th e ir trade and they are accom plishing m uch by the aid of Mr. Blessing, who is a fine in stru cto r.
