A good m any m ission chairs and settees have been com pleted and are ready to be stained, w hile a large num ber are under way. L et us hear from you. P U P IL S ’ N E W S ITEM S T h e seventh grade is now w orking problem s in in terest. Dr. C ashatt speaks well of C ath erin e Reed, a voca tional nurse. L ottie W ilson, a vocational dom estic science g irl, is doing excellent w ork in the sew ing room . Some of o u r horses need the side calks on th e ir hind shoes, so we are tu rn in g out some side calks. T h e gardeners are ta k in g their lessons from the teacher of ag ric u ltu re now. T h e boys like him very well. H arriet Y ernev and E d ith S ta rr are g e ttin g along nicely at th e hospital in tra in in g as vocational nurses. Ivan A nderson is p u ttin g glass sides in the bushel boxes w hich were designed by the seventh grade. T he class will use th e boxes for ex p erim en ts in ag ric u ltu re. T h e farm ers have seeded ten acres m ore in vetch and oats for hay. T h e 25 acres on the south side of the ranch and th e new place near the Pacific H ighw av are to be ploughed and seeded n ex t. W edge, of Boston, M ass., in com pany w ith his wife and d au g h ter, Miss R u th , arrived on T h u rsd ay last for a visit to Chem aw a. T h e D octor is the special representative of th e Society tor P ro p a g a tin g th e G ospel A m ong the In d ian s of N o rth A m er ica, and has m ade several to u rs th ro u g h o u t the In d ian Service, visitin g Indian schools, and is no stran g er here. He addressed th e stu d e n t body and faculty in th e school auditorium S unday n ig h t and also com m enced his series of lectures on C itizenship, involving th e subjects of “ U n ity ,” “ D ependence,” and “ S erv ice ,” on M onday and T uesday evenings. T hese helpful talks tc ou r stu d e n ts are being received w ith great in terest and appreciation. It is a joy to w itness th e beam ing faces as they eagerly listen to the in terestin g and profitable w ords. LOCALS Mr. Brace has been called to P ortland several tim es lately on official business, T h e illu strated lecture last evening on “ S erv ice,” by Dr. W edge, was a g reat treat for th e puplis. T he Doctor talks to the stu d e n ts so directly and u n d erstan d - ingly th a t he holds th e ir undivided atten tio n . IN D U S T R IA L NOTES A visit to the various industrial d ep artm en ts each m o rn in g finds th e vocational and prevocational classes assem bled in the space set aside for lecture w ork, deep in th e study of th e various subjects. O ur pupils tak e considerable in terest in th is instru ctio n and are g ain in g inform ation of m uch value. Miss S kipton speaks highly of the w ork done by Delia C ourchane in th e (lining room. Mr. Ball is very m uch pleased w ith the way his p re vocational class in b lacksm ithing have taken hold of th eir w ork. A five-course luncheon was served by th e Dom estic Science vocational class on T uesday In honor of Dr. and M rs. W edge and Miss W edge. O th er guests were S upt. and Mrs. Hall and M rs. E stabrook. Rose S im m ons received the g u ests and Leona Jo h n served the lu n ch eon, w hich was well prepared and d ain tily served.
