36 THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN ATHLETICS B R IE F SUMMING U P BY MR. SM ITH, Disciplinarian November 15 Chemawa lost to the strong Freshmen team of the Ore gon Aggies. The heavy Freshmen team out-played our boys in all de partments of the game. Chemawa entered this game with her best players on the crippled list; Walker and Wiggins were on the sidelines, Patrovich and Nix were suffering from injuries, received in practice. If Chemawa had been at her best on this day, the Aggies would have won the game. Tot it be known that this Freshmen team was a very strong aggre gation this year. Jim Evensdon, the old full-back who is coaching the team, had his men well trained. In the early part of the week the Freshmen team won from the ’Varisity, in a hard fought game, 12 to 6. Downie made a drop kick from the thirty-yard line in the early part of the game, giving us our only score, while the Freshmen tallied 33. The same story applies to our game at Forest Grove with Pacific University. Our boys were in poor physical condition, and with Walker at home, the team went to battle minus their firearms. The team lacked that fighting spirit which they displayed in the games with Pacific College and the Multnomah second team. Pacific made 7 points in the first half and Chemawa made 6 in the second half. In the seven games played this year, we won from: Che mawa 22, Salem High 6; Chemawa 6, Willamette 33; Chemawa27, Pa cific College 0; Chemawa 7, Multnomah Second 0; Chemawa 91, Paci fic College 0; Chemawa 3, O. A. C. Preshmen 33; Chemawa 6, Pacific University 7. Chemawa, total 162 points. Opponents 79. B A SK E T B A L L The basketball players are doing work daily in the Gym, and while the present indications are not all sunshine, the boys will work hard to develop a strong team. Of last year’s team we have Sellew and Service, and Talbot of two years ago. Downie, McDonald and R. Adams are strong contenders for places on the team. The canvas covering for the floor will be much appreciated by the players, as this will afford a fast floor. The league teams are all looking forward to a very successful season, and promise to put out better teams this year. For the past four years the league has played a series of very good games and this year it seems more popular than ever.
