Lloyd is riding high on the wave of critical acclaim his new album has garnered. The record is entitled The Lloyd Jones Struggle, which is also the name of his band. Anyone who is a regular lis tener to Gavin “The Rooster Man” Fox’s Saturday afternoon Blues Power show on KLCC is by now familiar with Lloyd’s new work. It is much re quested on that most popular of Willa mette Valley blues programs. The record has received solid sup port from other experts as well. One of Portland's venerable record stores, Music Millenium, used a cut from the disk as the background track for their radio ad. Rockport Records, another important Portland area record outlet, recently pointed out in their newsletter that The Lloyd Jones Struggle was outselling Robert Cray’s latest release at their store. Another endorsement of the work is expected in the coming months from one of the most important musi cian’s periodicals in the country. Guitar Player Magazine sent staff members to catch their live act at Cisco and Poncho’s, a posh Portland nightclub. They expressed strong ap proval of the work and indicated a You’ll find it here! Getting good reviews and endorse ments is a great way to begin, but in order to keep record sales growing, the Lloyd Jones Struggle has lately spent a lot of time on the road. Last month they played across southern Oregon and Northern California, in cluding stops in Eureka and Arcadia. They also managed to sneak in gigs with Chicago-area great, Charlie Mussel white, in Portland, Corvallis and Ashland. Over the summer, the band will head for dates in San Fran cisco, then north to Canada. The Lloyd Jones Struggle will bring their original brand of funky blues to Taylor’s stage at 9:30 pm; admission will be $2 at the door. Portland’s rock ’n’ roll power-trio, The Razorbacks, will appear at Taylor’s June 11. The Razorbacks have received critical acclaim for their recently released LP, More Love, Less At titude. The album, produced by Quarterflash drummer Brian David Willis, features such Portland-area luminaries as Andy Stokes, of the popular funk band Cool’R and the horn players of the Crazy 8‘s. Review er Stuart Thoml inson of The Ore gonian said of More Love, Less At titude, “The band’s rendition of ‘Blues Ain’t Nothin,’ with Miller shin ing .. . on both the vocal and guitar parts, tightens the Razorbacks’ hold on the title as the most compelling rock trio in these parts. . . .” When performing live, the Razor backs—guitarist Chris Miller, bassist J. Michael Kearsey and drummer Jeff Hudis—use a combination of rhythm and blues, rock-a-billy, thrash-rock and blues. This variety of danceable styles has made the band a long-time favorite in Portland and throughout the Northwest. Showtime will be 9:30 pm; admis sion will be $2 at the door.
