BICYCLE TOURS Sunday, Sept. 28,10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. "A Taste Of Touring,” offers recreational bike riders the chance to view some of Eu gene’s historical highlights as well as the beautiful Willamette River bike paths. Riders can choose from a Willamette River tour or a leisurely tour with frequent stops at Eugene's historical sites. Each ride will last about one and one half hours. The separate tours will be led by the McKenzie Riders Bicycle Club and the City of Eugene Historical Review Board. Tours begin at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street. BE A BRICK! Friday, Saturday, Sunday Red, bone-shaped paving bricks will be sold for the purpose of raising money for much needed capital improvements at the Hult improveme Performing Center for the Arts. The bricks will be engraved with the purchaser’s name : and will pave the walkway of Hult Plaza. CARNIVAL Thursday, Sept. 25, - Sunday, Sept. 28. All the excitement and color of the midway comes to the Eugene Celebration with this new event. The carnival will feature amuse ment rides, game booths and everything else needed to make this a four day event no one should miss. COMMUNITY PARKWAY Saturday, Sunday Over 75 of Lane County’s service related and non-profit organizations will pay tribute to the volunteers of Lane County. Information about the various organizations and their activities will be available, and agencies will be recruiting new volunteers. PARADE Saturday, Sept. 27,10:00 a.m. to noon The Eugene Celebration Parade is the largest, most diverse parade in Eugene/Springfield. This year’s parade has expanded to 175 entries, ranging from slugs, clowns and marching bands, to floats, horses, carriages and others. FACES AND PLACES PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Friday, Sept 19 - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners hung in Huit Center’s Studio One. Monday, Sept. 22 - Sunday, Sept 28. Show in Eugene Conference Center. The Eugene Celebration Faces and Places Photography Contest consists of black and white and color photographs taken in Lane County. Besides pictures of Lane County faces and places, this year's contest features a special category for Eugene Celebration photos. EUGENE SOFTWARE SHOWCASE Wednesday, Sept. 24 Showcase 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dinner meeting 7:00 p.m. Address by Stewart Alsop 7:30 p.m. There are presently over 100 software firms in the Eugene area. It is the goal of the Eugene Software Council, sponsors of the Software Showcase, to make Eugene a software capitol of the United States. The Software Showcase provides a chance for Eugene Celebration visitors to see the products of this fast growing industry. Over 30 Eugene soft ware producers will be on hand. A cross section of firms will be showing educational, business, utility, and games software. Souvenirs include T-shirts, visors, mugs, tiles, chocolate suckers, bal loons and lapel pins—all which bear the attractive Eugene Celebration logo. STAR SEARCH Finals: Sunday, Sept. 28, 4-6:00 p.m. This is Eugene's major talent show. Through a series of auditions, semi-finals and finals, contestants in seven different categories will compete for an opportunity to fly audition for the national Star Search free and program in Los Angeles. In the Silva Concert Hall, Hult Center for the Performing Arts. SUPERPOPS CONCERT Saturday, Sept. 27, 8:00 p.m. Guest Conductor Keith Brion, portraying John Philip Sousa, will conduct the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, launching the Sym phony's 20th Anniversary season. In make up and costume, bearing a striking resem blance to the legendary "March King", Brion will lead the orchestra in a performance entitled, "Sousa at the Symphony." The pro gram will include overtures, vocal and brass solos, anthems and Sousa's famous marches. Brion's portrayal of Sousa’s conducting man nerisms and stage appearance from the 1920‘s includes replicas of his baton, uniform and white gloves. Brion has brought his Sousa programs to orchestras throughout the country, including the Boston Pops and the National Symphony Orchestra. The Sousa recreations are the result of extensive research in libraries, newspapers and muse ums, interviews with former Sousa band members, and the study of old recordings. 3A
