Box 259, Eugene, OR 97440 335 W. 20th, Eugene, OR 97405 (503) 484-0519 Eugene Celebration: Rim & Video Festival The deadline is approaching for the Eugene Celebration film and video festival, the first competi tion of its kind to be held in Lane County. Sponsored by the Oregon Pro duction Arts Network, the festival will showcase works by top pro ducers in Lane County. Entry categories include documentaries, education/training/industrial, commercial/promotional, and miscellaneous (entertainment, ani mation, graphics, music video, ex perimental, etc.). All entrants must reside in Lane County. Entries must be submitted by August 26 to the City Manager's office. Up to three entries will be accepted from individuals, com panies or associations of indi viduals. Film entries must be 16mm and video entries may be on half- or three-quarter-inch tape. Entry fees are $10 per entry. Application forms are available at the City Manager's Office, 777 Pearl St., Room 105, or contact Nancy at 342-3599. Winning entries will be honored at an awards banquet and shown in the Soreng Theatre during the third annual Eugene Celebration, Sept. 27-29. Mainstage has successful summer Mainstage Theatre Company has a new lease on life after its suc cessful summer season on the Eu gene Downtown Mall. The deci sion to produce The King and I came at a time when the company was $8,000 in debt, had no ven ture capital, and less backing from supporters of the summer project than ever before. The Mainstage Board of Directors were seriously contemplating bankruptcy, but decided to try one last chance to turn the tide of financial events. The King and I was mounted on a proverbial shoestring and sold 85% or better every night of its run. Several performances sold out completely. Outstanding box office receipts, a purchase of ser vices by City of Eugene Room Tax, grants from the Eugene Downtown Association and First Interstate Bank Foundation,' and a gift from a private donor allowed Mainstage to conclude its summer production with all production costs paid, the $8,000 deficit erased, and money in the bank for the future. Future plans include a few small cabaret productions this fall and winter and another Downtown Mall production next summer. If you like What’s Happening, support our advertisers!
