Broadway, Eugene. World Famous Artist Hundertwasser, Summer of '85 One of the world's greatest liv ing painters will again have a ma jor exhibit of his work on display in Eugene this summer. The artist is Friedenreich Hundertwasser and his paintings and prints can be seen at the Argus Fine Arts Cor poration Gallery at 122 E. Broad way. The exhibit by Argus is a re turn engagement with "Hundert wasser, Summer of '85" to be on display through September 15, 1985. The artist's work showing at Argus (Original Graphics) has to be seen close-up to be appre ciated. His block prints, some with inlaid foil, incorporate many other special features; copies of many beautifully made, num bered prints are available. Hundertwasser is recognized in ternationally as being in the tra dition of the great master painters of all time. He is the only living by Jack Craig painter to have his work at the Al bertina Museum in Vienna. He is also the only western painter whom master wood carvers of Japan would work with on block prints. His design was the first chosen by the Austrian govern ment to initiate a project of com missioned artists to design postage stamps. Hundertwasser's prints are de scribed as sensuous, vegetative, colorful. The color dazzles the viewer at first but getting closer, the form and subject matter are equally as powerful. Forms within the prints are human-oriented yet abstract. A person can be visualized, is always there in faCes, heads, eyes, bodies or buildings that are humanized. The spiral is also one of the basic forms of the artist's work. This fabulous show of Hundert wasser includes the artist's as tounding Regentag Portfolio of 10 pieces, five pieces of the Midori No Namida and Green Power as well as Meadowman. In all, there are more than 35 different Hun dertwasser images as well as his books, posters, and prints to be seen in the downtown Eugene gallery. Viewing hours (no admission charged) at the Argus Gallery, 122 E. Broadway, Eugene, are from 11 am-5:30 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Last year, What's Happening featured a Hundertwasser print on its August 2-15 cover. Small post card size prints of the artist's works are also available at Argus at a nominal price. The Tundra is a painting by Morten Solberg. He will be at Soaring Wings Gallery Thursday, August 8 to sign his works. The public is invited between 4-8 pm. Morten Solberg Visits Eugene Morten Solberg is a very special kind of wildlife artist. His works are a unique mix of precision and abstrac tion. His animals look so real they could be photographs. However, the landscapes surrounding them are sur real, flowing, more out of his own perception than reality. Solberg has, in fact, been a photographer during his long career. It did help him focus on shapes and designs, he says. His work is in many permanent art collections and he has had numerous exhibitions and received quite a few awards. Soaring Wings Art Gallery is featuring works by Morten Solberg. The artist will be here on Thursday, August 8 for a reception at the Gallery. It will last from 4-8 pm and the public is invited.
