The banners, which display the group or company name, will hang along the Irish Festival parade route in downtown Eu gene, or along South A and Main in Springfield, from March 7 to 22. If you're reading this publication, there's a good chance you are a Green, even if you don't yet know what being a Green means. What it means is being a member of, or on the same wavelength as, the growing Green Movement, which is rapidly spreading worldwide from its West European origin. The following is a statement from the Federal Pro gram of the West German Green Par ty: 'We represent a total concept, as opposed to the one-dimensional, still more-production brand of politics. Our policies are guided by long-term visions for the future and are founded on four basic principles: ecology, social responsibility, grassroots democracy, and nonviolence."If these ideals strike a chord in you, you are a Green. Green ideas have been around in the United States for a long time. Many of you may have read Ecotopia, by Er nest Callenbach, or New Age Politics, by Mark Satin. Both of these books, written in the 1970‘s, are full of home grown Green ideas. A new book by American authors Fritjof Capra and Charlene Spretnak, titled Green Politics, details the West German Green experience and discusses ways to put Green ideas to work more effec tively in the United States. Andreas Muller, a Green Party city council member from West Germany, is tentatively scheduled to speak in the EMU Building on the U of O campus at 7 pm on Monday, March 11. He will speak on the German Green Par ty, and will explore ways Green ideas can be translated into action in the United States, locally and nationally. A discussion will follow. We will be studying the Green vision and similar concepts and will begin working out a program for local ac tion on these ideas. Since we re all af fected by State and Federal policies as well as the local ones, we'll also be working on programs for increasing grassroots input into the formulation of these policies. We'll be talking with a cross-section of local people to clarify the changes people would like to see.
