They will be hosting eight German visi tors, most of whom will be dis abled, in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the first or ganized group arrival of German immigrants to the United States. Community Education The University of Oregon’s Community Education Program is offering winter term classes in conversational Chinese and Jap anese, overseas business and in ternational executives’ roles, and business, education and health care applications of microcom puters. Through its comprehen sive educational efforts and by providing a full line recycling service, BRING is successfully spreading the practices of recy cling, waste reduction, and con servation. BRING’s Educational Pro gram includes slide shows, speakers, displays and demon strations, and tours of recycling facilities. Each month BRING makes presentations to hundreds of school children and a wide as sortment of community and civ ic organizations. BRING’s policy is to divert as many items as possible from the waste stream. In 1982, almost 1800 tons of glass, tin cans, alu minum, scrap metal, motor oil, batteries, and various types of paper were collected and mar keted. BRING offers a Subscribing Membership for $5 per year (tax deductible) which provides members with a quarterly news letter and an invitation to the BRING Annual Meeting in Jan uary, as well as meetings of the Board of Directors. The newsletter, entitled The Recycling Papers, is an informa tive update on current activities and legislation involving recy cling, and features brief articles by local supporters of the organ ization. Currently, BRING Recycling is providing recycling services to rural residents of Lane County at seven area locations. Recycla bles will be accepted at solid waste transfer sites in Veneta, Marcola, Vida, and Dexter; and at landfill sites in Franklin, Cot tage Grove, and Creswell. During the work shop you will have an opportuni ty to evaluate past Christmases, fantasize the perfect Christmas holiday, and write a plan for a worthwhile happy holiday. Ideas for inexpensive gift-giving will also be shared. Making Peace Visible Making Peace Visible is a workshop which will offer ideas, how-to and general get-up-your nerve pep-talks by peace activists who have made big posters, stood with burma-shave type signs along busy streets, shopped in malls with white-face, stood in candlelight vigils, and made lawn signs—all to make mes sages for peace and nuclear dis armament visible. Everyone is invited to consider the various methods of presenting a nuclear freeze, nuclear disarmament, peace message. This will be at the Roosevelt Middle School Cafeteria at 7:30 p.m. on Tues day, Dec. 6. Call 683-6187 for more information.
