The deadline for calendar listings and classifieds for this double issue is Thursday, October 20 at 5 p.m. If you’re planning an event or wish to run a classified during those two weeks (Oct. 27 Nov. 9), be sure to submit neces sary information to us by the deadline: Thursday, October 20, 5 p.m. Fall Peace Festival A Fall Peace Festival at Shroeder Park in Grants Pass from Oct. 21-24 will consist of three days of activities and workshops focusing on peace education and peace action, cul minating in a major demonstra tion at Litton Industries, sched uled for 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24. Workshops will include non violence preparation, consensus working and affinity group for mation, war tax resistance, the ' U.S. role in Central America, consciencious objection, and a children’s workshop on peaceful play. Numerous other work shops are planned. Meals are free, but a ten-dol lar donation will help cover costs. Childcare is provided. Some space in large tents is available, but people are encour aged to bring their own shelter. October 21-24 are days of in ternational protest against the European deployment of Cruise and Pershing II missiles. If there is any place in Oregon where protests against the Cruise mis siles are appropriate, it is the Lit ton Industries plant in Grants Pass. This plant is the sole pro ducer of the main navigation computer circuitboard for the Inertial Guidance System of the Cruise missile. New Director at NCAP Norma Grier has been hired as the new director of the Eugene based Northwest Coalition for Alternative to Pesticides. She succeeds Fred Miller, director since NCAP’s inception seven years ago. Ms. Grier, a founding member of NCAP, helped initiate one of the original member groups of NCAP, the Healthy Environ ment Action League. She has worked as the coordinator of NCAP’s Southern Oregon re gion for the last two years. . Starting from an organization with seventeen member groups, NCAP has become the largest pesticide reform organization in the United States, with seventy member groups representing about 4000 people in five North west states. ' Forest use of herbicides has been a major focus of reform ac tivity. Agricultural and urban uses of pesticides have become additional areas of reform activi ty in recent years. NCAP’s central office in Eu gene handles over 2000 informa tion requests a year from throughout the nation. It is re sponsible for coordinating the activities of the organization and representing the coalition in public policy-making process. NCAP relies on a network of active volunteers with varied contributions and time commit ments. Persons interested in con tacting NCAP for information on current activities or for vol unteer work can call the office between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays.
