Solar Energy The Solar Energy Center at the U of O is presenting a series of free solar events. The first, Geyser Pump Solar Collectors, will see the unveiling of a new hot water system, October 12th, 7 pm, at 283 Lawrence Hall. Solar ’83 Energy Product Show and Regional Solar Conference Exhibits will include solar hot water heaters, weatherization systems, photovoltaics, solar iums, heat pumps, solar sky lights, window insulation sys tems, passive solar designs, com puter programs and more. This will be October 14-15, 9 am-5 pm at the Eugene Hilton Con ference Center. And October 16th they will sponsor a Fall '83 Solar Home Tours from 9 am noon and 1-4 pm. Call 485-5719. Rais ing Children in the Nuclear Age should prove a provocative and informative lecture topic. Oct. 15th at 8 pm in the EMU Ball room. Tickets are $1 for stu dents, $2 for the public and are available at the door. WISTEC Willamette Science and Tech nology Center, Oregon’s only science and technology museum outside the Portland area, is launching its annual fund drive. Located in Eugene next to Aut zen Stadium, WISTEC has gain ed broad visibility and attracted diverse audiences with a variety of popular programs ranging from computer programming classes to Astronomy Day, a radio show on technology, and ' Saturday science workshops for kids during home football games. WISTEC’s goal for the 6-week drive is $25,000. Cor porate and individual gifts make up about 22% of WISTEC’s $110,000 operating budget. The non-profit science center earns nearly two-thirds of its own revenue from admissions, mem berships, class fees and special events. Foundation grants make up the rest of WISTEC’s in come. Prospects for Disarmament The Willamette World Affairs Council is a new non-profit, nonpartisan, educational or ganization based in Eugene, whose purpose is to provide in formation on international af fairs and to promote more effec tive citizen participation in foreign policy making.
