N , This Week’s Highlights History and Mom join together on Sunday, May 8, when Eugene celebrates Historic Preservation Week and Mother’s Day. Eugene’s annual celebration of Historic Preservation Week will be repeated this year, offering self-guided walking tours of downtown’s historic buildings. The tours begin between 1 and 5 pm on Sunday, May 8, at the former Ax Billy Department Store at the north east corner of 10th and Willamette Streets. A slide show on the city’s history will be hosted by the Junior League of Eugene, dressed in turn-of-the-century costumes. For more information, call Pat Decker at the City of Eugene, 687-5481. oeo The first annual Springfest Celebration and Parade will be Sat., May 7 in Springfield. The theme is Flowers *n Fun. The city flower, the Daisy, and bicycles are to be featured attractions. Parade contests will be held for the best decorated, funniest, most unique or most imaginative vehicle or rider. Other events are a run, youth soccer, booths, good food, bike rodeo and more. See Saturday Calendar for a complete listing. ooo Fraternity and Sorority “Greek Week” activities include a Canoe Fete, air band concert, progressive dinner, serenades and games. Greek students will paint OREGON on the Hayward Field East grandstand. Animal House, star ring John Belushi, will show Sunday at 8 pm at the EMU Ballroom. Monday, the annual John Belushi commemorative jello-eating contest will take place at 3 pm in the EMU Courtyard. There will also be entertainment (which continues all week) in the courtyard, a Street Faire featuring food and crafts, a Mystery Duck contest and performances by ethnic and foreign student groups. Parents Weekend, May 13-15, winds up the festivities. It includes faculty lectures, tours, awards luncheon and open houses.
