About What's happening. (Eugene, OR) 1982-1993 | View Entire Issue (Sept. 30, 1982)
On October 24, the people of Eugene and Springfield will have an opportunity to attend a very special event at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts' Soreng Theatre. Eugene actress Jane Van Boskirk and musician Linda Danielson will be performing their already renowned stage documentary Change The Way It Is! Change The Way It Is! is a dramatization of the lives of the working women of Appalachia, taken from the book Hillbilly Women by Kathy Kahn. Jane brings several of these personalities to life, while Linda, a talented and versatile musi cian, sets the mood with fiddle, dulcimer, auto-harp and guitar. Jane and Linda presented this piece in Eugene earlier this summer, and then went on a statewide tour with it. Everywhere the response was overwhelming for this sensitive and moving tribute to this special group of women. Author Kathy Kahn flew in from New York for the Portland performance and was so pleased she is hoping to take the show to the Appalachians. Thanks to the efforts of the Lane Regional Arts Council, the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, and What’s Happening, along with several local business sponsors and the Oregon Committee for the Humanities, this piece will be pre sented free to the public, at 2 pm on October 24 Tickets will be distributed by our local business sponsors which we will list in next week’s edition of What's Happening.
