The Community Garden, located on East Barclay Drive next to Sisters Eagle Airport, provides a lovely setting for a lunch of fresh and healthy items under sunshades scat- tered through the garden. Quilts are displayed on the fence surrounding the gar- den with stunning mountain views as a backdrop. The gar- den has 44 raised beds, plus two elevated beds at wheel- chair height. Each property is unique in its own way due to its history, current usage, or items on display. Eclectic treasures for Creekside Park visitors Open mic night blossoms in Sisters People strolled through an eclectic variety of handmade treasures from metal art and wildlife photography to hand- crafted silk scarves. More than 90 artisans dis- played hundreds of pieces of original artwork, including paintings, sculpture, ceram- ics, jewelry, fiber, fine glass, woodwork, mixed media and photography. Given the right circum- stances, it can be rewarding and downright fun. The atmo- sphere was friendly, apprecia- tive, and nonjudgmental4in other words, perfect4at the Paulina Springs Books open mic last week. More formally known as <Music, Poetry & Storytelling Open Mic,= the monthly event invites the Sisters com- munity to share their work in a low-pressure environment, free of charge. For those who aren9t performing, it9s a great way to soak up local talent, browse books, and have a few snacks. The evening kicked off with Shelby, a.k.a. Midnight, who played acoustic guitar and sang. <It9s a song about how I love to go into my imagina- tion,= she said, <but some- times being in your imagina- tion, running away, doesn9t solve everything.= A self-assured presence in torn jeans and Sharpie- illustrated Chuck Taylors, the teenager sang, <I hope that / you9ll come to me / I9m living / in the dream.= Katy Yoder, wearing sil- ver and turquoise earrings shaped as little horses, read a story about her <once-in- a-lifetime horse.= The emo- tional journey she shared is part of a work in progress, in a genre she calls speculative nonfiction. <Will Rogers had Trigger,= she began. <I had Topper.= Yoder wept openly during the story9s end, joined by many audience members.
