Wednesday, August 8, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Wayward cat reunited with owner Art Attack critique group hosts show By Jodi Schneider Correspondent Eight well-known local artists from Sisters Art Attack group will be holding an art show and demonstra- tion of their individual paint- ing skills on the lawn next to Gary Cooley’s Gallery at 353 W. Hood Ave. on Saturday, August 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The critique group was formed two years ago when Jim Horsley and a couple of other local artists came up with the idea of a monthly gathering to review each other’s art work to help grow their painting capabilities. The exhibition will pro- vide spectators with an opportunity to interact with the artists and see how they approach painting with their different techniques. “Each of us will be work- ing on a painting and inter- acting with anyone who has an interest in art, and the process by which an artist goes about creating it,” said Art Attack member Randall Tillery. The artists will have their easels out and will also have paintings that will be avail- able to purchase. “I think the energy and interest in the event is for the public to get an up-close and personal look at how excel- lent fine art is created, with a chance to interact with each of the participating artists at their easels,” Tillery said. All of the participating artists are from the local area, with a strong regional presence. JoAnn Burgess is a pas- tel artist from Sisters recog- nized for both her landscape and abstract work. She is represented at Hood Avenue Art. Clarke Berryman, rep- resented at Gary Cooley Gallery, specializes in real- istic portraits of animals and people with incredible detail. Working from life, he cap- tures local landscapes that are alive with color and texture. A wayward cat that some- how made his way from Bend to Sisters was reunited with his owner after being cared for by the staff at Rio Restaurant and Sisters Athletic Club. “For nearly a week a sweet kitty was hanging around the grassy area behind the Sisters Athletic Club and Rio Restaurant,” Cindy Tintle of SAC reported. “Four-year- old Nicholas, the son of Rio’s owner (Roberto Cardenas) developed a natural bond with the affectionate kitty. Nicholas made sure the kitty was fed and taken care of whenever he visited the res- taurant. One evening the cat even went home with Nicolas and his dad because Nicholas was worried that the cat was lost and unable to find his home.” Rebecca Womack from Sisters Athletic Club took the cat to Sisters Veterinary Clinic, where they discov- ered a microchip with the owners’ contact information. However, the phone number associated with the account was disconnected. Tintle continued to do some digging online and found an email address for PHOTO PROVIDED MauMau the cat took a sojourn in Sisters and has now been reunited with his ueoule from Bend. the kitty’s owner.
