Wednesday, August 1, 2018 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 9 Hundreds flock to annual antique and craft festival A combination of vintage treasures and arts and crafts came together at Creekside Park in one big, eclectic show on Saturday — the annual Sisters Arts and Crafts Festival and Antiques in the Park. Wide assortments of col- lectable antiques were on dis- play in booths from vintage wooden signs to century-old pitchers. Mixed in the huge treasure chest that overflowed across the park lawns were a variety of crafts from fused glass on framed panel to skin products made with essential oils. This year Shauna Harris, show manager for Richard Esterman, oversaw the event that showcased over 70 vendors. “This is probably my favorite event all year,” Harris said. “Even though it’s hot and in the middle of the busy season, there is something relaxing about this event. Sisters has a lot to offer as a community, and we love being able to be a part of that.” First-time vendors Doris Moravek and Angelica Burri started a new venture just four months ago, “Smell My Balls: Bath Enhancers,” a bath product business where they have taken bath bombs to a whole new level with naturally derived ingredients. “We have three differ- ent lines and 62 bath-bomb scents,” Burri said. The idea was conceived when Burri’s boyfriend pur- chased bath bombs for his own bath. “He was buying a very expensive product, so his mom Doris and I decided to come up with our own all- natural recipe for his bath,” Burri said. “It just took off from there.” Bath bombs were first invented in 1989, when product inventor and Lush co-founder Mo Constantine was inspired by the fast-fizz- ing action of Alka Seltzer. Bath bombs are little round “bombs” that fizz when you drop them into water. The fizz is brought on by a com- bination of Epsom salts, citric acid, and baking soda — the basic ingredients of a bath bomb. However, there’s a lot more to a bath bomb than the fizz. “We know that over 60 percent of what we put on our skin will end up in our blood stream, and that’s why we designed our bath bombs to be beneficial for both skin and body,” Burri explained. “All of our bath enhancers are handmade with ingredi- ents that serve a nourishing purpose.” Visitors and vendors tapped their feet to musi- cal entertainment by Scott Brown, who plays a little bit of everything. New vendor James Welch is the brand ambassador for Sogno Toscano, a family farm located in the Tuscany region in Italy that produces quality Italian cooking products. “It’s my friend Pietro Brembilla’s family farm,” Welch said. “Pietro came over about 10 years ago from Italy and started working in five-star restaurants and real- ized that his family products should be imported to the United States. “The family hand-picks the olives and cold presses them within three to six hours, so what that does is create a 500-degree flash point on all of our olive oil which will last the buyer a lot longer.” It has become a social media sensation and even led to high sales on glue! We are talking about slime — the all-new slime made by kids all around the country. The gooey make-it-yourself toy is taking the Internet by storm, and first-time vendor 11-year-old Dayanara Day from Portland knows how to craft a colorful variety, that kids of all ages were going gaga over. “I make all my ‘unicorn slime,’ borax-free so you don’t burn your hands,” Day said. “I use laundry detergent, Elmer’s glue, food coloring and either hair gel or shav- ing cream.
