They must also be able to commit to a sound check and orientation on Friday, June 8, during the day. Appropriate rodeo attire is required. Performance on a horse is optional, with a horse conditioned to handle large crowds, confusion and noise. This also will require the performer to make any arrangements for transporting a horse and removing it from the grounds after the National Anthem is sung. The youth per- former on Sunday must have an adult chaperone. The contest also requires a firm commitment from each singer to be available for the performance for which that singer is assigned. The contest entry must include name, address and tele- phone number, age and a brief description of experience. The singer will be performing for a crowd of over 6,000 people, so he or she must be comfortable with large crowds. “It is hard to not get emo- tional in the arena after the Grand Entry and the flag have set the stage for the anthem,” said Tehan. “That’s what brings a sense of community and the patriotism we all feel, especially when people in the stands sing along. “I am excited for other peo- ple to have the opportunity to share that experience. I have felt so honored every year in which I have had that special moment,” she concluded. Sisters Rodeo will begin June 6 with Xtreme Bulls, fol- lowed by four rodeo perfor- mances June 8-10. LETTERS Continued from page 2 some parking for our customers for the day. It wasn’t until 1 p.m. that I finally saw the gentlemen on the ATVs driving around attempting snow removal. The problem? The sun had melted a large portion of the snow already, and other retail shop employees and owners had shoveled the majority of the snow out of the way. Not only were the ATV driv- ers ineffective at removing snow, they were a danger to customers walking around town. Perhaps we can try and schedule these guys to come well before shops are supposed to open, and not the middle of a busy weekend afternoon. What we really need them to do is to help clear out the bulb-outs on Cascade, and other parking spots in all other parking lots on our side and back streets. Additionally, they need to come early in the morning (like 6 a.m.), well before customers are parking in town to shop and eat. For a city that claims to be business-friendly, it is very frustrating to continue to not have the support from the City when we need it most. Sarah Wilder s s s To the Editor: Winter is still here after all. As someone who commutes to Bend every workday, a snow storm hitting Sunday into Monday is not one of my favorite things. Thankfully, I've got ODOT on my side! ODOT does a great job. Highway 20 was in great shape Monday morning and the com- mute was smooth sailing all the way. I am always so impressed! Thank you.
