Based on her high school accomplish- ments, which include four appearances at the state meet in cross-country, including a top-10 finish as a junior, Bartlett will likely contrib- ute immediately to the team’s continued success. The Spartans top runner this year, senior Regan Yee, won the Canada West individual title, helping the team to second place. Bartlett, who plans to enter the school’s nursing program, had not heard about the school until the start of her senior year when she and a friend, while researching colleges, had the idea to look at schools in Canada. As it turned out, Trinity Western had what Bartlett was looking for so she applied, leading to acceptance and an offer to run for the cross-country and track teams. Trinity Western was estab- lished in 1962 and includes 4,000 students, making it the largest privately funded Christian university in Canada. The city of Langley, with a population of just over 140,000, is located about 40 miles southeast of Vancouver. Josh Nordell, who served as Bartlett’s cross-country coach throughout her high school career, spoke at the signing ceremony. “Anna has been a very special part of our program here at Sisters High School, and we know that she will continue to do well in her college years in every way.” The distance for women’s cross-country races at the collegiate level in Canada is 8 kilometers (4.91 miles), while high school races are typically 5 kilometers (3.1 miles), but most runners have no difficulty moving up to that distance according to Nordell. “Anna will likely run the same pace for eight kilome- ters that she is accustomed to running for five kilometers before long,” he said. Bartlett is the daughter of Katie and Rob Keranen.
