Contact bike shop to receive a donated bike The annual Blazin Saddles bike donation program has brought in dozens of bicycles ready to find a new home in Sisters at Christmas time. “Our amazing little com- munity has outdone last year with bike donations and we have even more bikes to donate to the community than last year!” said Casey Meudt, owner/operator of Blazin Saddles. The bikes are of all shapes and sizes and not just for kids. Part of the idea of the program is to bring fam- ily cycling within reach of everyone in Sisters. Those interested in receiving a bike can send an email to blazinsaddles@bendbroad band.com or call the shop at 541-719-1213. Specify gender, age, height and first name, last initial. People can pick up bikes December 20-24 (the shop closes at 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve). Each donated bike comes with a brand-new helmet. Many high schools around the nation have woodwork- ing classes, but it’s hard to find a school where a stu- dent can learn homebuilding skills. Sisters High School has such a program under the guidance of Tony Cosby, and last week the construc- tion students were out at the Sisters Habitat for Humanity jobsite putting up the walls for future homeowner Becky Conner. “It’s a great opportunity. Other schools don’t have this kind of program and I’m grateful we can learn these skills,” Joseph Scholl said. The house at the Village Meadows neighborhood is the sixth Habitat home to have the walls built by the construction students. The construction class is held in the fall each year and is open to students who have already taken beginning woodwork- ing classes. The wall-raising is the culmina- tion of their hard work. “The partnership with Tony and his students has been a great experience. So many hands are involved in helping families from Sisters,” Snider said. Cosby echoed those words and is looking forward to another wall-raising in 2018. Home for th e Holidays !
