The Outlaws com-
peted in the Perry Burlison
Invitational, held at Cascade
High School on December 2.
Sisters only had 11 varsity
matmen at the tournament,
and finished 17th out of the
24 teams in attendance. Crook
County took first, Thurston
placed second, Dalles took
third, Cascade finished fourth,
and Sweet Home was fifth.
Sophomore Ethan Martin
(195 pounds) was one of the
Outlaws’ stand-out play-
ers, and fought his way to a
fifth-place finish. Sophomore
Dylan Vantress (106) also had
a good showing and finished
sixth.
Senior Casey Warburton
(285 pounds) won three of
his five matches. Warburton
was one match away from the
placing rounds, and was in a
heavyweight class, giving up
20 pounds to other wrestlers.
“We may not have had
many wrestlers place in the
tournament, but we had many
wrestlers win matches, which
helped our team score,” said
Coach John Downs. “I told
the team at the beginning that
every point counts. I was very
proud of the team.”
The JV squad brought
13 wrestlers to the competi-
tion, and did well in the JV
tournament.
The Outlaws have many
upperclassmen who are com-
peting for varsity spots, two of
which (senior Damian Wills
and senior Chayce Sproat)
were in the JV tournament.
Sproat pulled off a dominat-
ing first-place finish at 195

— Coach John Downs
“These tournaments are
always a great starter for the
season because it helps the
team understand at what cali-
ber they need to be wrestling
at for the rest of the season,”
said Downs. “It definitely
helps pick up the tempo in
practice and helps the wres-
tlers set goals.”
The Outlaws were to com-
pete in a match at Summit
on Tuesday, December 5.
Sisters will attend the Culver
Invite on Friday and Saturday,
December 8 and 9.
