24 Wednesday, December 6, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Anna Bartlett Sisters High School November 2017 Student of the Month Anna Bartlett has been to a lot of schools in her young life — from Malawi, Africa, to Arizona, USA. She fi nds Sisters schools to be special. “We have really, really unique oppor- tunities,” she says, citing the annual Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center fi eld trip, IEE, a variety of medical career-orient- ed opportunities. Anna has thrown herself into all of it, pointing toward a career in missionary nursing. Sheʼs also a three-sport athlete in cross-country, swimming, and track and fi eld; active in leadership; an IEE intern; a greenhouse intern. “Iʼve just tried to get myself involved,” she says. “I like feeling like Iʼm doing some- thing with my life, not just sitting around.” Anna also values the culture of Sistersʼ schools, where there is a great deal of caring and trust among students and staff, and ev- eryone is encouraged to be themselves. “Anna has always been a compassionate and caring young lady since Iʼve known her. Yet, Iʼve witnessed how much she cares about others and takes care of them. As a senior she was automatically designated as a captain of the cross-country team. I suspect that if the team voted she wouldʼve become captain anyway. Weʼve obviously seen how fast she is, but what many havenʼt seen is how she wrapped her arms around all the kids, joked with them when they were down and guided them when they needed direction. Over the years Iʼve learned that some of the key char- acteristics of being a Sisters High School Outlaw is one who has integrity and is will- ing to help others, one who believes the indi- vidual is a part of something bigger. Anna is a true Outlaw, congratulations.” – Joe Hosang “Anna is one of those few students that truly does her best in every place that she spends her time. She gives her best and helps everyone around her to reach their potential.” – Rand Runco “I have had Anna in many of my Medi- cal/Health Academy courses. I know she will make a tremendous nurse because she has a genuine, authentic personality; she is very kind, accepting, and encouraging; and because she is curious, determined, patient, compassionate, hardworking, and has a great sense of humor. Anna has such a spe- cial, infectious laugh. She has a special way of making every environment pleasurable, even in tough, challenging times (such as hospital rotations in her health occupations class). Anna has a fun, witty personality and certainly keeps everyone on their toes. I am very proud of this young lady and all that she has done at SHS, and all that she will do in her future endeavors, to continue being a most exceptional being.” – Heather Johnson “Anna Bartlett makes SHS better each and every day. She is an engaged student, a caring classmate, and a natural leader. In the classroom, she asks insightful questions that deepen my understanding of the material. In the hallways, she offers her warm smile to everyone she sees. And on ASG, she leads her peers through her positive example. In short, Anna is an outstanding student who constantly reminds me what it means to be an Outlaw. Iʼm very proud of her for earning this award, and Iʼm very honored that she has been my student.” – Matt Bradley “Congratulations, Anna! We are so fortu- nate that Anna is a part of our community. She has inspired many by her strong work ethic and dedication. Anna understands that it takes diligent work to achieve her goals. She also cares deeply about other people and the world. She volunteers her time and en- ergy to her community and environment. I am so proud of Anna and I look forward to her endeavors in the future!” – Rima Givot “I have had the honor to know Anna in the three years of Chinese class she took from me, beginning when she was in middle school. She is an amazing student! It has been a thrill to open up the Nugget or the Bulletin and see pictures of Anna compet- ing in cross-country. Anna takes everything she does very seriously, and strives to be the very best she can be at whatever she does. I know this amazing young woman wants to travel the world after high school, and bring her talents and passion to people of other cultures. Congratulations, and way to go Anna!” — David Perkins “Anna is a hard working and bright kid. She has an awesome sense of humor and makes every class she is in better.” – Daniel OʼNeill These businesses have joined The Nugget in supporting our youth and their accomplishments by co-sponsoring the Student of the Month program.
