Wednesday, December 6, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 15 Sisters Kiwanis sells See’s Candies Chocolate is one of the staple food groups of the holiday season. Each year, Sisters Kiwanis Club leads the populace of Sisters Country into temptation — but for a good cause. Their See’s Candies trailer is open in the Ray’s Food Place parking lot, dispensing the boxed chocolates that have been a popular gift for generations. Proceeds from the sales of the See’s Candies help fund Kiwanis’ many outreach programs in Sisters — from scholarships to the food bank to assistance for career-change education. Kiwanis also supports Sisters Family Access Network, the Sisters High School Key Club, among many others. So a box of chocolates — or two or three — is more than a guilty pleasure. It’s a gift that gives in multiple ways. Celebrate the Season at Cottonwood Café Vast Church Vast Church invites the Sisters community to join the congregation in an open-air Christmas Eve service celebrating the birth of Jesus at Fir Street Park on December 24 at 4:30 p.m. Children will re-enact the Christmas Story according to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; there will be readings, singing and a lighting of candles in a service that practices the rhythms of the historical church. The service honors the Biblical understanding of Jesus’ birth — and all are invited to join in. The lighting of the candles in the darkening eve- ning is particularly affecting, as one light multiplies and grows throughout the park. Dress appropriately for a winter’s evening; the service will go forward even in the snow. Please bring a camp or picnic chair if you wish to sit, as seating is limited in the park. full bar, gluten-free/vegetarian options always available Gift Certifi cates Available Extended Holiday hours: Th -Tues 8-3, plus open every day December 26 through January 2 403 E.
