6 Wednesday, November 22, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Obituary Boys basketball returns four By Rongi Yost Correspondent The boys basketball team returns only four veteran players this year: Ty Horner, Jack Berg, Noah Richards and Zach Anderson. Horner is the lone senior on the squad. He returns as an all-league player and will play in the post and at forward. At 6 feet 8 inches, Horner should be a force on the court for the Outlaws, both in the paint, outside- rebounding, on defense, and as a shooter. As a senior, he will provide leadership to the team. Three juniors, includ- ing Berg, Richards, and Anderson, will round out the returning players. Berg and Richards are both second-year varsity players, and will play at guard and forward. Jack is a good shooter, and started most of last year for the Outlaws. He’s worked hard on his game in the off-season, and coaches are hopeful that Berg will be a big part of the team this year. Noah (guard/forward) and Zach (forward/post) both got stronger and stronger as the season progressed last year. They have good skills, and a feel for the game; and coaches are looking for them to score, rebound, and play defense. Five seniors join the var- sity squad this year, includ- ing Isaiah Rush, James Cecelliani, Austin Lake, Taylor Scholl and Peyton Myhre. Rush is a guard/forward and a transfer from Western Mennonite High School in Salem. Coaches noted that Isaiah is a heady player, who has a fair amount of basket- ball savvy. Hopes are that Rush will help the Outlaws in scoring, defense, and han- dling the ball. Cecelliani will play at forward and at post. James brings energy and intensity to the team, and his skills have improved tremendously since last year. He is also expected to rebound, play good defense, and provide leadership. Scholl also played some on the varsity squad toward the end of last season. Taylor is currently rehabbing from a knee injury and the Outlaws hope he will be able to play by January. He will play at forward and post, and will lend help in all areas of the game. Myhre has a great shot and will play at guard and Ugg, Dansko, Merrell, Keen and many more comfort shoes and boots have j just arrived! Juniors Brad Eagan and Ryan Waddell will round out the varsity roster, and both will play at guard and forward. Eagan had a good JV season last year, and is a well-rounded player, who can score, defend, and run the team from the guard position. Waddell is a hard worker and has improved his game since last year. Ryan has an improved shot, and can rebound and defend. Head Coach Rand Runco has decided to take a leave of absence from coaching, and David Godfrey, who has coached with Runco the last several years, will step in this season. Godfrey shared with The Nugget that this year the Outlaws want to build on the last three years’ success. Sisters has a tough non- league schedule, and hope that will prepare them for their equally tough league season. Currently, the Outlaws are working on coming together as a cohesive team, and their current goal is to improve throughout the season both as a team and as individuals. or J oy f t ee your f Helen Middleton April 17, 1930 — November 12, 2017 Helen Geraldine (Holland) Middleton, 87, passed away November 12, into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ.
