Wednesday, November 15, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 31 Call for artists issued by FOSL By Sue Stafford Correspondent Sisters Country artists are invited to submit their original artwork on Saturday, January 6 for display in the Friends of the Sisters Library 13th Annual Art Exhibit, which runs Wednesday, January 10 through February 23, 2018. Artwork will be accepted at the Sisters Library community room from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Invitations with all the details have been emailed to artists and can also be picked up at the information desk at the Sisters Library. Artists may submit two pieces of wall-hung art and five pieces of other art forms that have not been exhibited in the Annual Art Exhibit in the past three years. More than that cannot be accepted due to limited space. Secured wire hangers are required on all artwork that will be hung; no saw-tooth hangers. Wall-hung art can- not exceed 30 inches by 40 inches unless space permits. Quilts and other fiber art must have a rod sleeve secured on the back for hanging. Larger quilts to be hung on the rafters cannot exceed 84 inches wide by 75 inches long. Ceramics, sculpture and jewelry will be displayed in the locked cases in the lobby. If the artwork is too large for the case, it will be dis- played on a shelf or table in the library. All artwork must be identified with labels on either the back or the bottom of the piece. Artists are also asked to bring a one-page biography that includes artist’s name, description of the submitted work, and contact informa- tion, which will go in a note- book accompanying the show. All art pieces submitted must be approved by the FOSL Art NuggetNews.com is your online source for Breaking News • Classifieds Weather • Road Reports CUSTOM HOMES • RESIDENTIAL BUILDING PROJECTS John P. The Friends of the Sisters Library will receive a 10 per- cent commission from the art- ist for any artwork sold during the art exhibit, which is a fun- draiser for FOSL. The ever-popular pub- lic reception at the library is slated for Friday, January 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with complimentary hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and live music provided. The public will be able to meet the artists and vote for the three People’s Choice Awards, which will be presented that evening. Voting for the awards will take place January 10-26 at the library. And Ian readily acknowledges that he’s really looking forward to giving up a commute that, in winter, can rack up three hours one way — on a good day. Reid’s current post with the Umatilla National Forest puts him in a remote and rela- tively unpopulated area. His new posting puts him in the heart of one of the busiest recreation areas in the West, with a lot of wildland-urban interface where people live on the edge of or in the midst of forest lands. With that in mind, Reid says he is interested in focus- ing on helping to build resil- ience in the ecosystem and balancing all of the elements that go into sustainable and accessible recreation, while being “respectful of people’s desire to use public lands.” He places a high priority on building and maintain- ing healthy relationships and good communication between and among various agencies and entities that are involved with public lands in Sisters Country. Reid has experience fight- ing fires — which, unfortu- nately, is likely to be tapped in a forest that has seen major fires in most years for the past decade or so. “I know that’s going to be part of the job,” he said. Reid earned a bachelor’s degree in fisheries from Oregon State University and a master’s degree in biol- ogy from Southern Oregon University. Reid began his Forest Service career in 1999 on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest as a district fish biologist and program manager. Through his career Reid has worked with fire, timber, mining, rangeland, wilderness, and recreation management. FEATURED BROKER Kimberly Gorayeb Principal Broker I love my job!
