16 Wednesday, November 1, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Rylee Weber Sisters High School October 2017 Student of the Month Rylee Weber has thrived amid the multitude of opportunities offered at Sisters High School. “The more youʼre willing to put yourself out there, the more youʼre willing to dive in… the cooler the ex- perience is,” she says. A three-sport athlete every year — in a variety of sports, Rylee loves to be physically active and outdoors in Sisters. She also loves to organize and lead her fellow students while serving her community. Sheʼs been on multiple missions to Mexico and is involved with Bridgestone Homeless Shelter in Portland — but organizing the Mr. SHS pageant as a junior in support of Sisters Family Access Network was especially meaningful to her, “getting to make a difference in the place I love, where Iʼm growing up.” Rylee is currently Student Body President. She plans to attend col- lege with a career goal of going into nursing. “Ryleeʼs excitement for life is completely contagious. She can light up a room when she walks in. I have completely enjoyed teaching and learning from her over the last two years. I canʼt wait to see what she does after high school, Iʼm sure whatever it is she will knock it out of the park.” — Tony Cosby “I remember Rylee entering as a fresh- man. She was just as gregarious then as she is now. I knew that she would have a positive impact on our school. If you see Rylee any- where throughout the school, sheʼs always smiling and saying hello. I have only known her to be positive and resist the temptation to engage in gossip. Even when things around her seem to be negative Rylee tries to see the good. I remember Rylee making a refl ective internal statement when she was struggling as an underclassman. When I asked Rylee how things were going, she couldʼve went directly to something external but instead she said, ʻI have some things that I need to improve on.ʼ What a star! I am grateful for her infl uence, and she certainly deserves recognition.” — Joe Hosang “Rylee Weber is an outstanding Outlaw in every way. In the classroom, she follows her curiosity and perseveres through her setbacks. On the fi eld, she leads her team by example and competes with a positive attitude. And in the community, she brings people together and serves with her whole heart. She is one of those stu- dents whoʼs always striving to make SHS better, and she succeeds in this endeavor every day. She is an excellent student and an even better person who defi nitely deserves this award.” — Matt Bradley Rylee Weber works so hard to learn and master concepts. Her spirit is contagious. She reaches out to all students and cares deeply for her com- munity. I am so proud of Rylee! Her inspiration is infectious. Thank you for all you do!” — Rima Givot “Opportunity is sometimes hard to recognize if youʼre only looking for a lucky break.” —Monta Crane “This quote reminds me of Rylee because she is the kind of person who doesnʼt wait for things to happen, but takes risks and notices even cracked-open doors, and slithers in. She moves through life gracefully and joy- fully, taking advantage of opportunities and learning from mistakes. Countless times, I have witnessed Ryleeʼs kindness… taking the time to thank our custodians, reaching out to a new student, volunteering to help some- one in need. On numerous occasions, I have also seen her joy for life… leading the crowd in cheers at sports events, encouraging her teammates on the soccer fi eld, making jokes and laughing in class. I am confi dent that this young lady will continue to positively touch lives. I will miss hearing her in the halls at SHS and having her in class. Keep taking ad- vantage of every opportunity, Rylee!” — Samra Spear “Rylee helps make SHS a better place. Her positive attitude, leadership, and work ethic are contagious. Thanks for all you do, Rylee!” — Gary Thorson These businesses have joined The Nugget in supporting our youth and their accomplishments by co-sponsoring the Student of the Month program. “Th e best way to predict the future is to create it.” Wishing you a healthy dose of success! — Abraham Lincoln WALK-IN • URGENT CARE Occupational Medicine 541-548-2899 3818 SW 21st Pl.
