Wednesday, October 25, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Sisters Arts Association Fourth Friday Art Stroll By Helen Schmidling Correspondent It isn’t quite Halloween, but there will be plenty of treats available during the Fourth Friday Art Stroll in the galleries of Sisters. Grab a friend and come on out on Friday, October 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. Be sure to sign up for this month’s Quick Draw, a certificate for $100 from Sisters Arts Association, good for use at any of SAA’s gallery members. Raven Makes Gallery welcomes three Zuni Pueblo artists for the fourth Friday weekend. Jayne Quam, Kandis Quam, and Elroy Natachu, Jr., stone carvers and painters, are bringing new works from their studios in New Mexico, reflecting their culture and traditions. Twigs features “Pathways” from Central Oregon Studio Art Quilt Association (SAQA). “Pathways as a road- map to artistic expression” is the theme of SAQA’s 2017 show and exhibit. Fiber artists explore literal maps, circum- navigations, explorations and fictional trails. The art quilts are abstract and representa- tional, appliquéd and pieced, embellished and painted, machine stitched and hand- quilted. In addition to theme, size is the unifying trait. All of the quilts are either 18 by 40 PHOTO PROVIDED “Pigeon Pass” by Julia Jeans. inches or 40 by 18 inches. Photographer Lisa Belt’s work will be featured at Gary Cooley’s Collection Gallery. Belt’s photograph “Suspended” was selected and published on National Geographic’s “Daily Dozen.” More than 12,000 photos are submitted each day to the National Geographic website, of which 12 are chosen by the photo editors for publication. Photographs with the most votes are considered for pos- sible publication in a future issue of National Geographic Magazine. Hood Avenue Art features colorful abstractions by pastel painter JoAnn Burgess, with an emphasis on light and tex- ture; and figurative sculpture, inspired by memory, move- ment and time by Breezy Anderson. There will also be live music. Sisters Gallery & Frame Shop will feature brand-new acrylic pours by Candice Bruguier. The original paint- ings are abstract – no two alike – and some are enhanced by the addition of a wild ani- mal or landscape as suggested by the nature of the pour. The gallery also has new work by some of its gallery artists: Carol Grigg, Curtiss Abbott, Jodi Schneider, Jennifer Hartwig, Ann Grossnickle, and at least six of Dennis McGregor’s “You Stole My Name” original paintings. In Ken Scott’s Imagination Gallery, owner and artist Ken Scott will display several new works in his “Steampunk” genre. Other artists will fea- ture new paintings in water- colors, oils and acrylics, fused stained-glass scenery, raku pots and vases, clay birdbaths and lamps, chandeliers, garden lights and scenery in metal. Cowgirls and Indians Resale’s featured artists are Marlene Hasler, needle weav- ing; Kate Aspen, red necklace series; Tumbleweeds, furni- ture and décor; Jill Stanford, author of “The Cowgirls Cookbook,” Arbor Cottage, soaps and accessories; and music by the Ukuladies.
