8 Wednesday, September 27, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Boys soccer posts two league wins By Rongi Yost Correspondent The boys soccer team tal- lied their first league win with a 6-1 victory at home against Sutherlin on Tuesday, September 19, and two days later, posted a 2-0 win at Sweet Home. In Tuesday’s action, Sisters got on the scoreboard at the 15-minute mark when Skyler Larson’s shot bounced off the crossbar, and was rebounded from close range into the goal by Ultra Nillratanothai. Approximately five minutes later, Judah Keeton crossed the ball from the right side, and Ultra headed it in for his second goal of the night. Sisters scored their third goal off a chipped ball from Gabe Patton, who found Colby Simeral for another Outlaw goal. At the half, Sisters was on top 3-0. Five minutes into the sec- ond half, Keaton Green got the Outlaws going. Green took the ball up the left side, and passed it on the ground through the Sutherlin defense to Judah Keeton, who finished the goal. Ten minutes later, a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box skipped off a Sutherlin player’s head and through the hands of Samson Henneous, for Sutherlin’s first goal of the night. The Outlaws responded with back-to-back goals in the 72nd and 74th minutes of play. Skyler Larson crossed a ball to Kincaid Smeltzer, who knocked it in from just inside the 18. Sisters’ final goal came when Green received a through ball on the left side from Simeral and beat a couple of defenders for the goal. Coach Rob Jensen told The Nugget that a few players played an outstanding game. “ K e a t o n (Green) showed great energy and really pro- vided a spark to the game, and Judah (Keeton) made an instant impact in his first varsity action,” said Jensen. “Ultra (Nilrattanothai) got his first two varsity goals and was a threat up-top most of the night.” Jensen did note that the Outlaws have some things they still need to work on, but is pleased they moved forward and got a win on the board. Jensen said, “Keaton (Green) played a great game from the left wing, and Kinnon (Rutherford) and Colby (Simeral) locked down the middle from center back.” Sisters is currently 2-1 in league play. The Outlaws were to play at home against Elmira on Tuesday, September 26. Sisters will travel to Junction City on Thursday, September 28. Casey Glick, a 2002 Sisters High School graduate, sam- pled and thoroughly enjoyed the unusual beverage while working in Japan. Recently, back home, he suggested to his parents, Dave and Cindy Glick, that they produce hop water locally, inferring that the flavor could be enhanced using pungent, locally grown Northwest hops. “What better place to introduce a non-alcoholic hop drink than in Oregon!” he said. His parents agreed and l a u n c h e d O r e g o n H o p Springs with lifelong friends Alex Gholson (a chemist) and his wife, Lori (a yoga stu- dio owner/instructor), from Philomath. Alex, also an amateur award-winning beer brewer, experimented with hop com- binations and different brew- ing techniques to create what the owners think is a winning recipe that they tested at sev- eral Oregon tasting events. The owners share excite- ment and enthusiasm for this new drink in their com- pany motto: “No Worries, Be Hoppy!” Friends and neighbors from the Sisters community have been very supportive and helpful with establishing this start-up. L o c a l a r t i s t L a u r a Campbell and Sisters Coffee Co.’s Jesse Durham together designed the logo and label. Jan McGowan, local not-for- profit and business advisor, offered ideas, recommenda- tions, and meeting facilitation. The launch date for this new non-alcoholic, zero-cal- orie beverage is at the Sisters Fresh Hop Fest, Saturday, September 30 from 12 to 8 p.m. at Village Green Park. The event is sponsored by Three Creeks Brewing Co. and proceeds go to The American Cancer Society. Wade Underwood, owner of the brewery, allowed Oregon Hop Springs to participate. Jesse Durham said this fun, family-oriented event offers the opportunity to “Have fun, make friends, and hop it up!” The owners report that beer-lovers and non-beer- drinkers alike enjoy the taste of the Sparkling Hop Water.
