Wednesday, July 26, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Sisters Arts Association Fourth Friday Art Stroll By Helen Schmidling Correspondent Oh, the weather’s hot, but the arts are so cool! Check out your favorite artist in one of the galleries during the Fourth Friday Art Stroll, July 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, July 29, drop in at one of the artist’s studios on the first Artist Studio Tour, sponsored by the Sister Arts Association (see related story, page 3). Twigs Gallery is featur- ing the works of artist Judy Hoiness. For the last 50 years, Hoiness has painted either on paper or canvas. Now she is combining vin- tage and recycled textiles with drawing and painting, on paper or canvas. Recycled textiles provide seams, raw edges, wrinkles and button- holes that enhance her art in a way drawing and paint- ing alone cannot. The three ongoing series in the show are Abstract Landscapes, Mt. Bachelor, Keeper of Secrets, and Save a Spot for Wildlife. Entering The Jewel on Cascade Avenue is always a memorable experience. An Oregon destination for 27 years, The Jewel’s powerful visual impact blends dozens of jewelry artists with amaz- ing architectural alabaster solid stone, crafted into func- tional art and lighting. His simple designs focus on the Three Sisters, from mountain scenes to pine trees, petite but substantial sterling sil- ver at prices even we cannot believe! Hood Avenue Art features the work of Winnie Givot and Mitch and Michelle Deaderick. Givot is a highly skilled watercolorist whose many different subjects reflect the beauty she sees with the eye of her heart. The Deadericks have been adding natural carvings, stones and crystals to their artistic and functional ceramics for more than 30 years. Clearwater Gallery’s fea- tured artists are Amanda Houston, Jerry Dame and Dennis Dame. Houston will be in the gallery presenting her newest pastel paintings. The Dames will also be in attendance with their latest oil paintings. Sisters Gallery & Frame Shop has Gary Albertson’s recent black-and-white prints, previously shown at the Blue Sky Gallery in Portland. Also see new work and visit with the gallery’s resident artists – watercolor by Caroline Stratton Crow, scratchboard by Jennifer Hartwig, and the pastel col- ored pencil landscapes by Mike Stasko. Ken Scott’s Imagination Gallery fea- tures linoleum block prints by Charlotte Van Zant-King, whose work is based on her own experiences in Alaska, where her husband was a biologist and pilot with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 20 years, and she was a wildlife rehabilitator and full-time artist. She has more than 20 large works (tapestries to murals) on pub- lic display in Alaska. Raven Makes Gallery has new and whimsical selec- tions from renowned Santo Domingo jewelry artist, Mary L. Tafoya. Her mosaic inlay jewelry continues to win awards and avid collectors.
