14 Wednesday, June 21, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Obituary LETTERS Continued from page 2 Mike Knop May 3, 1958 — May 13, 2017 Mike, the Wheel, was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 3, 1958, and died in Central Oregon on May 13, 2017. After high school Mike started his journey to the West Coast with stops in Denver, Colorado and Kennewick, Washington. Mike met Barb in Denver thanks to Barb’s twin sister in the summer of 1982 when Barb was on vacation and needed a golf partner. The couple came to Cannon Beach for the sum- mer of 1983 and never left. Mike and Barb were mar- ried on the beach in Cannon Beach on June 30, 1984, with all members of their immedi- ate families in attendance. Mike and Barb purchased a cabin outside of Sisters in Crossroads so that they could be closer to Mike’s favorite place — the Metolius River. Mike was a painting con- tractor in Cannon Beach. Mike’s side of the family include: Father Bill; Brother Larry and Barb #2 (Amanda, Alex); Sister Jane and Ken Bridge (Christopher and Roxanne, Sara and Joe, and Josh); Brother Phil; Aunt “Joe” and the camping cous- ins Kris (Tim), Kate, and Kelly (Doug). Preceded in death by Mother Irene. Barb’s side of the fam- ily include: brothers-in-law Jim and Marianne Eggers, (Nathan, Rachel, Brooklyn, Courtney) Steve and Di Eggers, (Emily and Michael, Kelly, Stephanie), Phil Eggers, Joe and Lori Eggers (Jacob, Zach); sisters in Law: Obituaries Policy: The Nugget Newspaper does not charge a fee to publish obituaries. Margaret Zerr (Michael, Cassandra), Katy and Jeff Eucker (Adam, Alyssa) Mary and Tom Davis (Anna), Patty and Dana (Nicole, Melanie, Zach); niece Jennifer (Jon) Johnson; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceded in death by father and mother-in-law Stew and Patricia Eggers; brothers-in-law Fred Zerr and Paul Eggers; brother and sister-in-law Alden and Tina Thomas; and niece Allison Thomas. Mike and Barb were extremely lucky to have had two wonder-dogs. Boomer was the first dog and Zoomer followed. Boomer and Zoomer were a big part of Mike’s heart. Mike requested a party, and his party was held on Saturday, June 10, (Belmont Day) at Cheri’s Café in downtown Cannon Beach. To honor Mike’s life do not buy flowers but rather plant something perma- nent. Mike believed in liv- ing life to the fullest, chas- ing dreams, placing bets, cherishing and cultivating relationships, enjoying hob- bies, learning something new every day, music and reading. It was important for Mike to live in paradise, catch and release and spend quality time with friends, especially at Cheri’s. Horse-racing, brewing beer, cooking great meals, baseball, hockey and fly-fishing were Mike’s favorite pastimes. I will. Before the show Ms. Liddell asked parents to please not take pictures during the perfor- mance. She told us all that there would be a DVD of the recital available. She explained that the light from cameras and cell phones may interfere with the filming. She was very clear. The only hiccup for me at this recital was a parent who, using her cell phone filmed her daughter every time she came on stage. She sat in front of me. It took some of the ambience away from my experience. She also, on occasion, had that bright light in her lap. Please, audience, be respectful of the audi- ence. Put your cell phone away and just enjoy the young boys and girls on stage. Buy the DVD! Denice Cristiano s s To the Editor: Regarding the Looking Outward column by Dan Glode on climate change (The Nugget, June 14, page 17), he needs to get his facts straight. A quick Google search reveals the U.S.A. is NOT the biggest carbon producer! China produces 8,175.31 metric tons per year, com- pared to 5,490.63 metric tons for the U.S.A. Russia and India are next with approximately 1,750 metric tons each. Also, take a look at the direction that each country is trending. Bert Schube s s s To the Editor: Sisters High School was a very busy place Saturday! With a basketball tourna- ment, Sisters Dance Academy’s spring recital (now with an early matinee performance), and Crest the Cascades participants filling the west parking lot, there were large quan- tities of people – many children – streaming through. Amidst all this, a person strolled in with NEW GAME S R I A T S P U M O O R Shuffl eboard, Foosball, Big Buck Hunter & Golden Tee 2017! s a dog and tethered it to a bench right on the path, then proceeded into the build- ing. My family and others were picnicking at the tables nearby. Less than 15 minutes had passed before an elementary-age child slowly rolled by on a skateboard and startled the dog. The dog reacted with growling and thrashing, breaking free (appeared he was only held in place by a breakaway collar). He proceeded to leave amongst an energetic bas- ketball team now gathered outside, multiple families picnicking at the tables, and chil- dren flowing in from all directions in colorful costumes. It must have been terrifying for this dog to be in a strange place, surrounded by strange sights and much commotion, without the comfort of his owner on the other end of his leash! A bystander was able to catch the dog and return him to his unfortunate predicament. The young skateboarder was strongly reminded (both by the growling dog and his parent) on the reasons to avoid skateboarding where other people or animals may be present. Dog owners, when in public, please respect your dog and the people who share these spaces.
