6 Wednesday, May 24, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon moys lacrosse wraps up season By Rongi Yost Correspondent The Outlaws played their final games of the season on Tuesday, May 16. They played in a three-team round robin format with Burns and Mountain View. The games were set up to give teams one last chance to play and give Burns, who had to cancel their regular season games due to low turnout, a final game also. A few players from Ridgeview came over to join up with Burns so they would have enough players for a team. Sisters was missing their goalie and three other players who were away as counselors for the sixth grade outdoor school, so they used a goalie from Ridgeview to add to their squad. Sisters defeated Burns 5-4 in the first game. Trey Stadeli scored two goals for the Outlaws and had one assist. Tyler Friend, Noah Keeton, and Gator Haken all contrib- uted one goal. Sisters lost 4-2 to Mt. View in their second game. No stats were kept due to the nasty weather; cold and windy with a rain and snow mix. At the SALI tournament on Saturday and Sunday, May 13 and 14, the Outlaws played four games over the course of the weekend. The Outlaws lost two heart-breakers in sudden- death overtime on Saturday. Sisters played well against JV teams from Lincoln and Grant, two Portland-area powerhouse programs, but came up short. In the Lincoln game, the Outlaws came back and tied the game up at 6-6. Sisters won the face-off, but their shot on goal was saved. Lincoln took it the other way and scored to get the win. In the game against Grant, the Outlaws were up 5-3 late in the game, but Grant came back and scored two goals, including a buzzer-beater, which sent the game into overtime. Grant got the face- off and scored to end the game. Coach Paul Patton said, “Our boys were bummed about the two losses, but felt good about their efforts to make the games competitive. It helped to have our best scorer, Ethan Morgan, back after being out for a month with a concussion.” On Sunday, the Outlaws posted a 6-4 win over Liberty. Gabe Patton scored a goal late in the game to give Sisters a two-goal cushion and ease their fears of another overtime game. In the final game of the weekend, the Outlaws faced the Bend JV team. The game went back-and-forth and ended in a 6-5 loss for the Outlaws. Patton said, “Overall, the team felt good about keeping the games close, and moti- vated to improve and learn how to win those types of games. It was good to have Matt Harris back as a long- stick defender to help us after he’d missed three weeks with an injury.” Patton reflected back on the season: “Our big accom- plishments were getting back to finding joy in playing the game and in making the com- mitment to work as a team to continue to be better people, as well as better lacrosse players.” There are no seniors on the lacrosse team this year, so everyone will be back next year. Patton told The Nugget if players continue to work on their individual skills, and make time to play together as a team, they should be opti- mistic about their chances on the game field.
