Wednesday, May 17, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 17 Jonathan Bertagana Sisters High School May 2017 Student of the Month Hard work, maintaining good grades and involvement are Jonathan Ber- tagnaʼs keys to success at Sisters High School. As an IEE intern, secretary for ASG, membership in LINK Crew and as a Mr. SHS contestant, Jonathan walks the talk. “Itʼs fun — thatʼs the biggest thing,” he says of his motivation for active in- volvement in his school community. He enjoys being around the people he shares activities with, and has the added satisfaction of knowing that his efforts help make his school a better place. Bertagnaʼs passion for fl y fi shing has determined his future path. “Iʼve been fl y fi shing for a very long time, and Iʼve been working in the fl y fi shing industry for the last four or fi ve years,” he says. He plans to attend Utah State Uni- versity to study fi sheries and aquatic sciences. He saluted his teachers for provid- ing so much one-on-one interaction with students, and thanked his parents for their ongoing support. He also offered a shout-out to the Backpack Buds, with whom he shares outdoor adventures. “IihaveitrulyienjoyedigettingitoiknowiJona- thani ini thei severali classesi we’vei hadi togetheri duringihisitimeiatiSHS.iJonathaniisiaithoughtfuli student, ikinditoibothiteachersiandistudents, iandi seeminglyialwaysiinigoodispirits.iIiwillimissihisi contributionsitoiclass,icertainlyiinitermsiofiaca- demics,ibutialsoiwithihisigoodihumoriandigener- osityitowardiall.” –iRobiCorrigan “ItiisisoifunitoiwatchiJWiexploreiallihisiop- portunities.iHeiisiexcitediwithitheioutdoorsiandiisi all-iniforiadventure.iHeiisisoiteachable,ibutiIifeeli thatiIilearnimoreifromihisiexcitementithaniIiwilli everiteachihim.”i –iTonyiCosby “I’misoihappyithatiweiareirecognizingiJona- thani asi thei Studenti ofi thei Month.i Hei isi ani outstandingiyoungimaniwhoiquietlyigoesiabouti doingi thei righti thing.i Jonathani hasi beeni suchi ai positivei forcei ati Sistersi Highi School.i Hei hasi giveni ofi himselfi ini soi manyi ways—academics,i leadership, iservice, isports.iIihaveiwatchedihimioni theicourtiandionitheifiield, iatiMr.iSHS,iandiini theiclassroom.iInieveryiplace, iheidemonstratesiai commitmentitoiexcellenceiandiaiselfliessnessithati putsiothersifiirst.iIilookiforwarditoisee- ingiwhereiheigoesifromihereiandihowihei willicontinueitoitouchipeople’silivesiandi makei thei worldi betteri fori hisi havingi beenihere.iCongratulations,iJonathan!” –iGailiGreaney “Characteriisiailong-standingihabit,i andi thisi youngi mani displaysi strongi character.iHisireputationiisioneithatiisi harditoimatch.iJonathanicanibeicountedi onitoibeiaipositiveiroleimodeliiniallicir- cumstances.i Asi onei ofi hisi IEEi teach- ersihisijunioriyeariandihisiAPiEnglishi teacherithisiyear,iIihaveibeeniimpressedi byihisihardiwork, ihisipositiveiattitude,i hisileadershipiandihisiintegrity.iTimeiafteritimei Ii havei witnessedi hisi selfliessi attitudei andi hisi concerniforiothers.iIiamiextremelyiproudiofithisi youngimaniandifeelihonoreditoiknowihim.” –iSamraiSpear “Jonathan’si smile,i kindi nature,i andi positivei demeanorimakeihimiapproachableiandiengagingi toitheischoolicommunity.iWeiareisoifortunateitoi haveihadiJonathan’sicontributionsitoiourischool.i AsianiIEEiintern, iheiisiteachingihisipeersiandi raisingi thei standardsi fori hisi classmates.i Hisi warminature, iresponsibleiapproach, iandicaringi characterihelpimakeistudentsicomfortableitoipushi themselvesioutiofitheiricomfortizoneiandigrow.iIi amiproudiofiJonathan’siaccomplishments!” –iRimaiGivot “Jonathaniisiaigreatistudentiandiaibetteriper- son.iItihasibeeniaijoyiforimeitoiseeiourientireischooli cheeriforiandilookiupitoiJonathan.iThieifactithati theikidsiiniourischoolilookiupitoiandiadmireiJona- thaniBertagnaiisiaigreatisigniofitheipositiveicul- tureiweihave.iJonathan, ithanksiforialliyouihavei givenitoiourischool.” –iDanieliO’Neill These businesses have joined The Nugget in supporting our youth and their accomplishments by co-sponsoring the Student of the Month program.
