Outlaws baseball team crushes Mt. View By Rongi Yost Correspondent The Outlaws baseball team came out swinging in their first game of the season and crushed the Cougars 12-4 at Mt. View on March 15. Sisters scored 12 runs off 11 hits, and Mt. View scored four runs off four hits. The Outlaws committed two errors in the contest, and the Cougars made four. Zach Morgan got the Outlaws on the scoreboard in the second inning with a solo home run over the left-field fence. The ball screamed over the 355-feet sign and sailed close to 400 feet before it landed. “It was a pretty swing,” said Coach Steve Hodges. “As soon as the ball left the bat you knew it wasn’t going to stay in the park.” Christopher Luz got on with a bunt down the third base line, was able to advance, and scored on an error to make it a 2-0 ballgame. Sisters tacked on a run in the fourth, and Mt. View answered with three runs to tie it up 3-3. The Outlaws got another in the fifth and one in the sixth to regain the lead at 5-3. The sixth inning was highlighted by a key double from Jake Larson, who scored off a single by Alec Gannon. The Cougars scored their final run in the sixth. The Outlaws took the plate in the bottom of the seventh, ham- mered the ball, and racked up seven more runs to nail down the win. Jett Mingus’ two-run homer to left field high- lighted the seventh inning. JW Bertagna also hit a beautiful ball down the left-field line for an RBI double, and Will Werts hit a double to score two. Pitching duties were spread out between several players. Morgan pitched the first three innings, Ryan Cook pitched the next two, and then Mingus came in for one-and-two- thirds innings. Austin Morris pitched the final out. Hodges said, “I was very pleased with our seventh inning. It was a close game, and that broke the game wide open. It was nice to see us exe- cute, and put the ball in play. The eight runs we scored in the final two innings changed the course of the game.” The Outlaws were to play at Madras on Tuesday, March 21. Sisters will play at home against Crook County on Thursday, March 23.
