Wednesday, March 1, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 23 Kylie Steiner Sisters High School February 2017 Student of the Month Kylie Steiner works hard and doesnʼt hesitate to ask her teachers for help if she doesnʼt un- derstand something in class. She attributes her success in school to those characteristics – and she appreciates that Sisters High School offers the right setting for her to succeed. “Thereʼs defi nitely more one-on-one with the teachers,” she says. “I kind of need more of that one-on-one to understand something. I think re- lationships with teachers is a big thing.” She cited Mr. OʼNeill, her math teacher, as a particularly strong infl uence. “Heʼs helped me become a better learner,” she said. Kylie plays softball and is in the process of building a guitar. “Itʼs exciting, she said. “Iʼm glad to have a memory of this school by building a guitar.” Kylie plans to attend the University of Mon- tana to pursue a major in psychology with an eye toward becoming a counselor. “Kylie is a caring, humorous, hardworking and smart kid. I have absolutely loved working with her. She is the kind of person who brightens your day every time you see her. And … she laughs at my jokes even on the rare occasions when they aren’t funny.” — Daniel O’Neill “Congratulations to Kylie! I have really enjoyed get- ting to know Kylie and see her work hard to learn in many strands of science. Her determination and abil- ity to advocate for herself have helped her grow and be successful over the past four years. I wish you the best!” — Rima Givot “I have known Kylie since freshman year. In these four years, she has demonstrated astounding growth. She has gone from being silly and social, to being an active participant in her own education. She has clear goals and stays on the path to meet them. She uses time well, and she advocates for her needs. It is truly a pleasure to have been part of this successful journey with Kylie!” — Leah Soloff “I am so happy to hear that Kylie Steiner has earned Th e Nugget’s Student of the Month. I have worked with Kylie on and off throughout her years here at SHS. She has grown into a very capable young lady who puts a lot of thought into everything she does. Th e conviction she shows in her work goes above and beyond. Her confi dence will take her far. Congratula- tions, Kylie!” — Denice Cristiano These businesses have joined The Nugget in supporting our youth and their accomplishments by co-sponsoring the Student of the Month program.
