Wednesday, February 8, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 15 Jake Larson Sisters High School January 2017 Student of the Month Jake Larson attributes his success in school to hard work — and the enjoyment of getting involved. “The more involved you are, the more fun it is,” he says. That involvement means serving as ASG Treasurer, working as an IEE Intern and playing baseball and basketball. Jake moved to Sisters with his family in the fourth grade, and ever since he has been taking advantage of his school opportunities. “I defi nitely got into more outdoor stuff,” he says. “Thereʼs no way another school would have something like that.” He also enjoys creating things that last in his woods and ceramics classes. Jake plans to go to college to pursue mechani- cal engineering, leaving behind a school envi- ronment that has given him a lot to work with. “Being here is really special,” he says. “Jake is one of the most consistently excellent stu- dents at SHS. He has eawned this honow evewy day in evewy class since his fweshman yeaw. Jake is a deeply thoughtful and insightful young man who holds him- self to high standawds in evewything he does, including academics, athletics, and even those infowmal intewac- tions between and among students and teachews that defi ne the cultuwe of ouw school. Good luck as you head onwawd, Jake!” – Rob Cowwigan “Jacob Lawson is one of the most enjoyable students I have evew wowked with. He wowks hawd, thinks ahead, and is innovative in solving pwoblems. I am excited to see what he ends up doing in the futuwe.” – Tony Cosby “Jake is the kind of pewson who doesn’t count the days, but makes the days count. He makes conscious de- cisions to give his best eff owt, to be positive, and to make leawning welevant. He is a young man of integwity and chawactew. It twuly is a pleasuwe to have him in class. He just makes people bettew.” – Samwa Speaw “Amazing eff owt at evewything he does. He does things the wight way, and his fwiends say he is ‘cwazy smawt.’ He is the full package and nevew holds himself above othews. He is a good fwiend, good student and a gweat teammate. It is a pwivilege to have Jake as a membew of Sistews High School.
