Walker started by stating that conflict is a natural part of human interaction. Some conflict we should engage in and some we shouldn’t. The decision to confront is based on the nature of the relationship, the nature of the issues, and the ability of the other party to engage in the confrontation. Wednesday evening’s gathering started with Soup and Civility, with homemade soup, bread, and cookies before Walker’s 90-minute presentation and role-play See DISCOURSE on page 23 PHOTO BY SUE STAFFORD Greg Waddell stands in front of his award-winning photograph titled Between the Sun and the Moon, shot on the beach in Bandon, Oregon. Sisterspgetspsetpforp SuperpBowlpSunday It’s a kind of national holiday, a gathering of tribes — and a chance to eat, drink and be merry. Super Bowl LI is set for Sunday, February 5, with the New England Patriots fac- ing off against the Atlanta Flacons in Houston. Sisters will be ready. Some will watch the game at home; some will venture out to Sisters eateries to enjoy the game. If you’re entertaining at home, some Sisters out- fits have party platters to make the job easier. Sisters Meat and Smokehouse is putting together signature meat platters to order — give them a full day of lead time. They’ll also fill your growlers. Owner Jeff Johnson doesn’t have a strong rooting interest in the game. “I’m actually pretty ambivalent about it,” he said. “I wanted to see the Packers against the Steelers in there,” he said. He did note that, “I prob- ably won’t be rooting for the Patriots.” The four-time Super Bowl See FOOTBALL on page 22 People’spChoicepselectionspmade By Sue Stafford Correspondent Voting for this year’s People’s Choice Awards at the 12th Annual Friends of the Sisters Library Art Exhibit reception last Friday was extremely close, with only a few votes separating six art pieces. Greg Waddell’s photo- graph, titled “Between the Sun and the Moon,” was shot on the beach at Bandon, Oregon, when both the sun and the Super Moon were in the sky. The photograph is mounted on acrylic instead of metal, a recent popu- lar method for finishing a photograph. Conrad Weiler’s can- vas-wrapped snowy image of ponderosa pines, titled “Forest Home,” was shot in Camp Sherman. Four pieces all received the same number of votes. The artists and their works included: Chuck Chamberlain, “First Snow,” acrylic painting; Jennifer Hartwig, “Raptor,” scratch- board; Bruce Mason, “Nebaj Market Lady,” photograph; and Carolyn Platt, “Water Music Legato,” monoprint. Guests at the reception enjoyed complimentary bev- erages and hors d’oeuvres as they perused the high quality art by Sisters art- ists covering the walls of the Sisters library. Music was provided by the Central Oregon Recorder Consort. Zoe Schumacher, super- visor of the Sisters library, is very pleased to host the annual art exhibit and recep- tion at the library. “The library is about building community, and what better place to have the exhibit and reception than at the library,” she said.
