Wednesday, January 11, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Wrestlers compete at invitational Library art exhibit delayed due to weather Rongi Yost Correspondent By Sue Stafford Correspondent Due to inclement weather, the intake of art for the Friends of the Sisters Library 12th Annual Art Exhibit has been postponed to Sunday, January 15, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the community room at the library. The exhibit will open two days later on Tuesday, January 17. Voting for the People’s Choice Awards will begin the same day and run through Friday, January 27. Ballots will be available in the library’s community room, and votes may be cast for up to three works of art. The art will be on display throughout the library, so be sure to browse all the rooms. Final opportunity for vot- ing and announcement of the winners will take place at the artist reception on Friday, January 27, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The reception is part of the Fourth Friday Art Stroll for January. Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be served as the public meets the artists and views their work. Two musical groups will be playing throughout the evening. The Central Oregon Recorder Consort with mem- bers of Renaissance Sisters will be playing mostly Irish tunes. The Tollgate Quartet provides music with two fiddles, cello, flute, autoharp and guitar. The exhibit will be on dis- play until February 24. About 50 artists will be exhibiting artwork in many different mediums, including sculp- ture, fiber art, painting, jew- elry, collage, woodworking, pottery, and photography. Last year’s opening recep- tion was very well attended, with many votes cast for the eventual four People’s Choice winners: Jennifer Hartwig; Randall Tillery; Steve Matthews; and Linda Hanson. Again this year there will be a silent auction of addi- tional artwork donated by participating artists, to help raise funds for the programs and materials at the library. Last year’s auction brought in $900 for the library. The annual FOSL art exhibit began in 2006 when the current library building opened and the art commit- tee was formed. The art show affords the community the opportunity to view and sup- port a large number of Sisters Country artists all at one time, in one location. In addi- tion, artists donate 10 percent of any sales to FOSL to help promote the programs at the library. www.NuggetNews.com SNOW REMOVAL Tractors Sign up for the January 14th Cooking Class! Mountain View was the first-place finisher with 303.5 points, Bend was run- ner-up at 240, and La Pine took third with a score of 221.5, Summit fourth at 178, and Sisters fifth with 84. Cole Pade and Casey Warburton both earned third-place finishes for the Outlaws. Pade (138-pound weight class) battled back through consolations to earn a third-place medal. “Cole again showed how tough he is and that every wrestler has to worry that they might meet him in com- petition,” said Coach John Downs. “Cole made sure the No. 1-seeded guy had to earn his way to get past him and Pade only lost to him 6-5.” Warburton took third at 220 pounds. “Casey is excited that he’s lost weight to get to 220,” said Downs. “This is his first tournament this season at this weight and he’s more competitive, which is evident with his third-place finish.” Jake Stevens worked hard for fourth-place at 152 pounds. Freshmen Dylan Vantress (106 pounds), Garret Reid (132 pounds), and sophomore Dalton Ford (120 pounds) all finished in fifth place. Brody Engstrom, heavy- weight and transfer from Indiana, also finished fifth. I am very excited to see what Brody’s future holds with the Outlaws, as he is only a sophomore. — Coach John Downs “I am excited to have Brody on the team,” said Downs. “In his only tourna- ment in the last two years, and in a very difficult weight class of 285, he was able to pin two of his opponents. I am very excited to see what Brody’s future holds with the Outlaws, as he is only a sophomore.” 7 Sixth place went to Sal Gibney, Ethan Martin, Rylan Carter (120 pounds), and Patrick Dingeman (195 pounds). Gibney took sixth at 170 pounds. “Sal stepped up into the 170-pound weight class and replaced our starter position normally held by a junior,” said Downs. “Sal thinks of himself as a first-round guy only. But, he proved this weekend that he can fight on into the second rounds. His future looks great with the Outlaws.” Freshman Martin took sixth at 182 pounds. Downs noted that a sixth-place fin- ish is impressive for a fresh- man who has to wrestle upperclassmen in his weight class. “I was really proud of all the guys,” said Downs. “We didn’t have many prac- tices this past week, and we’ve missed three tour- naments due to weather. It was exciting to get the team back into competition mode.” The Outlaws will com- pete in the Oregon Classic on Friday and Saturday, January 13-14.
