The theater company will follow with “Piano Fest” on Sunday, December 11 at 2 p.m. at Sisters Community Church, 1300 W. McKenzie Hwy. It will be similar to “Piano Bar,” but is being scheduled at a time that chil- dren and seniors might appre- ciate, Manning said. Ticket prices are the same as for “Piano Bar.” All the December pre- sentations will include some holiday music and some non- holiday songs. Silent Echo is heading into 2017 with a full head of steam, thanks in part to a recent $1,000 grant from The Roundhouse Foundation. Manning, who wrote the grant application, said the money will help finance December’s presentations as well as one- act plays in February. The one-acts, called “Now You’re Talking,” will feature work by Bend playwrights Larry Anderson and Cricket Daniel, among others. The theater company received nonprofit status this year and is looking toward having a permanent home and expanding its schedule. “The next goal is to find a building or get a piece of land and build to our specifica- tions,” Manning said. Other hopes include orga- nizing workshops for children followed by shows in which the kids would star. The same thing could happen for seniors, said Manning, who moved to Sisters in July 2015 from the East Coast after previously living in Los Angeles and London. She brought lots of New York City theater experi- ence with her, including stints as an actor, producer and wardrobe supervisor. She envisions a time when Silent Echo will offer four or five shows each year, selling season packages and indi- vidual tickets. She mentioned Neil Simon plays and Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals as possible fare, along with something less traditional every so often. “The goal is the fourth or fifth show of the year can be that edgy show,” Manning said. She and other Silent Echo members would like to have enough space in the lobby of their eventual new home to be able to display artwork by local residents. The company now has 19 actors and five directors. Newbold said Manning’s arrival in Sisters was a big impetus toward establishing Silent Echo. “We had been trying for years to get a theater group together,” Newbold said. “It’s not easy.” Manning explained that it was important not to detract from other arts activities in Sisters by starting Silent Echo. But given the community’s long support of all kinds of arts, she was confident enough to go ahead. “I felt it would be an enhancing thing without sub- tracting from the others,” Manning said. She said theater should be thought-provoking, and used the same belief in coming up with the Silent Echo Theater Company name. “I love two words put together that are oxymorons,” Manning said. “It’s my way to get you to think. I’m excited about our collaboration.
