Wednesday, November 9, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Rullman published in Range magazine Sisters freelance writer and Nugget columnist Craig Rullman has recently pub- lished a feature profile in the national publication RANGE magazine. RANGE magazine is an award-winning publication devoted to the issues that threaten the West, its people, lifestyles, lands and wildlife. Known for its powerful pho- tos and straight talk, RANGE exposes a land and lifestyle in crisis and shows how daily challenges are being met with grit, determina- tion and humor. No stranger to controversy, RANGE is the leading forum for diver- gent viewpoints in the search for solutions that will halt Benefit concert set for Heart of Oregon YouthBuild On Thursday, November 17, Hood Avenue Art will host a benefit concert for Heart of Oregon YouthBuild. Performer Melanie Rose Dyer, a veteran of the Nashville songwriting scene, will sing with her husband/ partner Daniel Cooper. Special guest fiddler Bob Baker has also been con- firmed. Their music is an all- original blend of Americana, blues, folk rock and story- telling. Dyer has had songs cut by major artists such as folk icon Tom Rush, Helen Darling and Rick Trevino as well as recording her own songs on her own label. Cooper, in addition to being a musician/songwriter is also an accomplished visual artist and entrepreneur. Together, they started a company based on Daniel’s invention of a guitar stand that folds and fits in most guitar cases. Called the Cooperstand, it is distrib- uted worldwide. Proceeds from the concert will benefit Heart of Oregon YouthBuild, a program located in Sisters providing job skills training, educa- tion services, and leadership development to local young people who face a number of barriers to success. $10 suggested donation for admission. Food and drinks will be available, and donations encouraged. The event is made possible by the Ten Friends Project. the depletion of a national resource, the American cowboy. RANGE has a simple and honest purpose: to chronicle the real, working people of the American West, and to provide an open forum to discuss the threats and assaults on the most unique of American lifestyles. Rullman’s piece, “The Anti-Millenial”, appears in the Winter 2017 edi- tion of RANGE. The piece profiles a young California rancher, Jesse Midgely, 24, of Janesville, who is defying stereotypes of the Millenial generation as he works tire- lessly to preserve the legacy and promise of his fam- ily ranch in a climate of uncertainty. 9 Candy for troops... PHOTO BY ERIN BORLA Sisters’ Halloween Candy Drive brought in loads of candy to be split between Caring for Troops (sends care packages to deployed Central Oregon soldiers) and Operation Gratitude (sends care packages to deployed troops, veterans, wounded warriors and first responders).
