Wednesday, October 26, 2016 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon 5 Art Stroll October 28 By Helen Schmidling Correspondent Halloween is just a few days away, but the Fourth Friday Art Stroll through the galleries of Sisters is a treat, not a trick. Stop by the galler- ies this Friday between 4 and 7 p.m. for a look at what’s new. The holiday season is coming, and there are many gift ideas right here in your neighborhood. Spread the word: Start your evening with artists and friends, enjoy light appetizers, and have fun! Every month, the Sisters Arts Association sponsors a “Quick Draw” for a prize worth at least $100. This month, it’s a $100 gift cer- tificate to Studio Redfield, known for beautiful and use- ful objects and modern, inno- vative paintings. Susanne Redfield has assembled a collection of ceramic tile, glazed pottery, acrylic and oil paintings, hand-hammered jewelry, live-edge koa tables, folk art, master woodcraft, pen-and-ink illustrations, and much more. The winner of this month’s Quick Draw may use the gift certificate for anything in the studio. To enter, just visit as many gal- leries as you choose between 4 and 7 p.m. and sign up – just one entry per gallery. Navigator News is featur- ing lithography on block by Wuon Gean Ho, whose work features Native American stories about becoming part of an animal tribe, such as the buffalo, identifying with animals and connecting with them through art, symbolic ritual, and formal language. Nature, folk art and magical realism are the art of Pamela Kroll, who categorizes her work as magical realism. Clearwater Gallery will be celebrating three-dimen- sional artists. Wendy Vernon and Wendy Rickards will show the newest trends in jewelry. Bob Bousquet will bring in new jewelry boxes. Tricia Biesmann from The Way We Art will display the newest scarves and toppers. Edie Shelton will have plant sticks and kitchen items. The Collection Gallery is excited to welcome well- known artist Melissa Cole. Her mixed-media paint- ings and mosaic sculptures are filled with vibrant color and unique, contemporary designs. Her work is dis- played in galleries, homes, businesses and public places worldwide. Gary and Karen Cooley invite you to see it now in Sisters. At The Imagination Gallery, Ken Scott’s ham- mered steel lighting is all hand-worked. No lasers, no shortcuts. Scott’s origi- nal in-house patterns are made from multiple panels, drawn and cut out by hand from flat sheets of metal, hand-hammered for contour and welded together before beginning the flame-cut lace- work. Beautiful works of art, like handmade jewelry, you must see them when the light is turned on. Best known for her water- colors of Native Americans and their horses, Carol Grigg is bringing a new col- lection of vastly different watercolors to Sisters Gallery & Frame Shop. Crows, migrating geese, and their feathered friends reflect the dark, subtle colors of late fall before the snow flies. Ann Grossnickle of Annelie Pottery will show new pot- tery, including yarn bowls and lavender-pressed and glazed mugs. Twigs Gallery is throwing open its doors to The Doors Show, featuring doors as por- tals, thresholds, entrances, passageways and frames that inspired 28 Central Oregon fiber artists. Each artist has contributed a unique inter- pretation of a door to this exhibit. Hood Avenue Art’s fea- tured artists are jeweler and painter Sharon Reed and watercolor artist Sarah Hansen. Reed combines tex- tured sterling with stones she’s collected from all over the world. She will also show her abstract paintings. Hansen focuses not on paint- ing perfection, but instead on illustrating the flaws, mars, scribbles and textures of life. Other galleries that will be open during Fourth Friday are Beacham’s Clock Company, Dyrk Godby Gallery, Things Etc., Raven Makes Gallery, Grizzly Ridge Upcycle, Cha for the Finest, Old West Collectables, The Jewel, Jill Neal Gallery, Sisters Art Works and Sisters Library. Maps are available in all gal- lery locations. 4 th Friday Art Stroll Oct. 28, 4-7 pm Downtown Sisters Be sure to visit these participating galleries... Meet your friends and stroll through Sisters.
