At the fourth annual Taste of Sisters, set for Friday, September 16, starting at 6 p.m. In the open courtyard at Eurosports, 223 E. Hood Ave. In past years, more than $8,000 has been raised to help two Sisters nonprof- its: Kiwanis Sisters Food Bank and Furry Friends Foundation. So far, 17 Sisters busi- nesses, and counting, will be donating prepared food with a variety of dishes that include vegan, vegetarian, meat, dairy-free and gluten- free options. There are still opportunities for eating establishments to participate, according to organizer Karen Kassy. She can be contacted through The Nugget office. “It’s really a win-win for everyone,” Kassy said. “Participants get to eat won- derful food at a sliding-scale price of paying what is com- fortable for them: $20-$60 per ticket. Our Sisters-area food establishments reach new people and remind everyone of how great their meals are. And, most impor- tant, the Food Bank and Furry Friends Foundation The Outlaws kicked off their season with a 2-0 win over Madras at home on Tuesday, August 30, in an endowment game. Two days later, they lost 2-1 on the road to Molalla. Malachy Sundstrom got the Outlaws on the score- board in Tuesday’s game against the White Buffs. Sundstrom received a ball behind the defense from Keaton Green and took a big touch past the keeper and tapped in a breakaway goal. Sundstrom scored again, when he crossed a ball from the right side, and it deflected off a defender for the score. The lead held until the whis- tle blew and Sisters walked off the field with the win. Coach Rob Jensen told The Nugget that the Outlaws defense played solid through- out the contest. Minam Cravens, Keegan Greaney and Anson Ricker shut down the Madras offense and every bench player that took the field played well. And, as was expected, Sundstrom receive money that enables them to help in our commu- nity all year long.” Kiwanis is a global orga- nization of volunteers. Their Sisters Food Bank (estab- lished 1985) utilizes an average of 1,990 volunteer hours so that 100 percent of donated funds go to food for families. It provides food to an average of 105 families per month. The Furry Friends Foundation is dedicated to improving the welfare of pets in Sisters. They help pets remain in their homes by operating a pet-food bank, providing spay/neuter sponsorships and assistance with emergency medical needs to families in financial hardship. Entertainment will be provided by Beatles’ cover band Juju Eyeball. With a repertoire of more than 80 Beatles songs, they will play three sets of favor- ites and danceable Beatles songs. Central Oregon Aerial Arts provides jaw-dropping entertainment as performers hang from 25-foot silk rib- bons and perform acrobatic feats in the air. Tickets are available in advance only, as the event is anticipated to sell out. Tickets are available at Eurosports or online at www. Bendticket.com. The Indians scored in the second minute to jump to a quick lead. Sisters equalized the score early in the second half when Sundstrom was fouled inside the 18. Cravens converted on the penalty kick to make it a 1-1 game. Molalla scored on a cross late in the second half and tallied the victory. Jensen said, “We showed improvement all over the field, but we just couldn’t put it in the net. We’re still adapt- ing to a change in our system of play, and are still form- ing chemistry with the new squad. The bench players provided some great energy and depth.” The Outlaws will play at Summit on Thursday, September 8. Meet t me at... M t RELAX. BE REFRESHED. Ample seating • Fast WiFi Crepes!
